Help! Something icky is on my computer.

Recommended Posts

Weird things are happening, and none of the programs I have are working to get it off.

First, when I log onto the internet for the first time now, a screen comes up that is made to look like an official Microsoft site, telling me to click on a link to stop my system from slowing down. There's a web address on there written real small, but I forgot the name of it. I knew better than to click on it.

Next, every once in awhile while I'm scrolling or clicking, the task bar will sometimes start flashing with a bar that says "loading", then it disappears. Or, a new screen will pop up quickly and the address at the blue bar at the top of the page says, "look2me.com", then it disappears too, after some numbers showing up on the task bar that look like 69.20.69.yy2 (or something like that).

In addition, by accident I found a new user in my user accounts, even though it doesn't show up on my start page on XP. The user name was "ASP.Net Machine A's...". I deleted it and it hasn't come back....yet.

For virus programs and pop-up blockers, I have:

Black Ice
Google Pop-Up Blocker
Norton System Works (ran that once)
Spybot (ran that twice)

Any suggestions?

first it sounds like your default homepage has been changed(standard trick) go to tools>internet options and try changing the homepage. I'll have to think on the task bar thing I've seen it before but it's been a while.

Also you might want to check and make sure that under the privacy tab it's set to medium at least

It's still set to Dropzone.com, as always.

I ran the "Live Update". Is that enough?

After you run the "Live Update" you need to perform a scan and update your back-up disks.

You should also download the update to BlackICE, as there was an emergency patch issued for "WITTY WORM" on March 24th.

A virus scan silly! Open up Norton and click on "Scan for Virus's." If the virus got on your computer before you updated it won't recognize the virus. Even if it did you still have to run a scan to get it removed. The auto mode only does so much.

I'm having major puter issues too skymama. Adaware keeps locking up when i try running it. I'm having michael (wffc) come over wednesday to figure out what the hell i did to my puter. I'm assuming i have some spyware that i can't delete. I know michael will fix it up for me though.

If it was my computer, I'd go through my registry by hand and clean it, it doesn't take too long, but you have to know exactly what you're doing or you'll fuck your computer so bad...so don't do that. Just telling you something someone could do for you.:)

my adaware was doing the same thing. i booted into safe mode and ran it there, and it cleared out like 80 something folders and files. after that, adaware worked fine. my laptop was ALL messed up. also skymama, something another dz.commer showed me was www.housecall.antivirus.com click 'scan now, its free', select your location, and let it do its thing.

i ran the scanner there and found a worm on my laptop that norton wasnt picking up!!!!

good luck!!!!
Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!

This one always seems to catch some crap that gets by, I run it every once in awhile and never fails to pick something up.

I did the one button scan last night a couple of times. It kept saying I had "1 problem found" but when I did the fix, it wouldn't fix. Then, I went to the security scan area where you can see it scanning every file on the computer, and it said it didn't find anything there. So, do you think this is more of a Spyware thing than a virus?
