What is the BEST Virus Scanner/FireWall available?

Just bought a new toshiba notebook and am think about installing a Virus Scanner & Firewall.

So any advice or recommendation on what brand or product is the best Virus Scanner & FireWall to invest in?

Edited to add: I am using a NETGEAR Wireless (802.11g) Router.

um.... do a search and you'll find at least one thread about this. It may have spun off a thread from about hardware firewalls and/or routers (now that I think about it I think it was a router thread by skymama).

I'm running a Netgear router with ZoneAlarm as a backup on both machines. Feelin' good about it so far. No problems, and ZA is free.

I run Mcafee on 7000 desktops at work and it keeps my infections to 2-3 PC's per major outbreak. I'm testing Trend right now and they are impressing me with the speed of their update releases.

Hardware firewalls are better then software any day of the week, but ZoneAlarm is a nice choice.

I would buy Norton Anti-Virus. Your router can function as a firewall as long as you keep it up-to-date, check with the mfg specs.

If you want a "software" firewall, then I suggest either BlackICE or ZoneAlarm. ZoneAlarm "basic" is very effective and free. I've used them both and had no problems. I would say that Zone Alarm has a slightly better "form factor" to it though, a little simpler in design and easier to use.

I use AVG for my virus scanner (there's an official free version on www.grisoft.com which I use). That has picked up viruses that norton couldn't deal with, so I like it.

I don't have much experience with firewalls, but ZoneAlarm and BlackIce seem to be popular.

We currently use trend @ work for over 5000 employees + additional computers. It's been very good to us so far.

I agree that Trendmicro is the best out there. They catch stuff that Norton misses. I always use their online scanner when I'm fixing someone's computer. I also recommend it to all the customers I talk to and clients

Get Nortons Internet Security. Comes with the AV and the Firewall

Dont go to Wal-Mart.. just dload it from the site, and subscribe to it online..Never buy the disks from anywhere.

Just because you buy the disks, doesnt mean you paid for it.. still gonna have to subscribe.
