AggieDave 6 #1 May 5, 2004 I finally watched that tonight. Talk about a really good movie. Not only was the movie good, the music was great as well. Its not often you get to hear some good violin concertos being used in a movie like that. It was incredibly refreshing. Then again, I'm probably the only "weird" one that really enjoys that type of music. *shrug* Maybe I can convince you to give it a chance and see if it moves your soul and mind.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Guest #2 May 5, 2004 Shoulda seen it in the theater, Dave. Outstanding picture. Too bad it got eclipsed by LOTR, but, that's show biz. mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."

AggieDave 6 #6 May 5, 2004 Wedding is still a ways off, we're looking at the fall of '05 (we both want to get out of school first). Oh, don't worry, everyone here will hear about it.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

wildblue 7 #8 May 5, 2004 I saw it in the theater, and almost left. It was boring. A few good battles here and there, really nice scenery and costumes (even the ships - they did a good job I think of recreating that period)... and that was about all. I'm not saying it was a horrible movie - it just didn't do anything for me.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

PrairieDoug 0 #10 May 5, 2004 Gotta go with Wildblue on this one. It basically seemed like one slow boat chasing another slow boat. If I'm going to watch chase scenes, which aren't really my thing anyway, I want the participants to be hauling ass. But hey -- that's why they have multiplexes, so we don't all have to watch the same thing.

I've read all of Patrick O'briens books and that's never been a story line. Capt. A is british through and through. And in the book Capt A and the Sophie's take on the Cacafuego - twice their size! Haven't seen it yet but can't wait. Anybody else an O'brien addict?? Along the same lines, it was totally unbelievable that the French could be tailed for hours on end without ever noticing the big ship slowly closing in on their stern. Still, overall I thought it was an OK movie, even on the better side of average, just not great. I did however watch what I thought was a very good movie Monday night. "Big Fish". Tim Burton does some wierd stuff, but I have to appreciate a filmmaker who can have me engrossed in a story even when I'm not sure *why* it's interesting. GARYC24 3 #14 May 5, 2004 I saw it when it first came out.. Good movie compared to other stuff out at the time. Lateley I have seen some foreign stuff.. Can't remenber the whole title??Barbarian Invasion about .a french guy in Canada dying.. Also..the last movie I saw was "Dogville" a 9act play.. I had no idea what this movie was..(Nicolle Kidman..a few other big names as weel.)VERY different!

Andrewwhyte 1 #16 May 5, 2004 I watched it last night myself. I enjoyed it but I wasn't bowled over by it. Did you see the Hornblower series on TV a few years ago? Much better in my opinion. Also Gregory peck starred as Captain Hornblower in 1959; absolutely brilliant.
AggieDave 6 #17 May 6, 2004 I really tried to watch the reruns on A&E of Hornblower, but I couldn't get into them, although I really enjoy most of the stuff that Gregory Peck has stared in. Different strokes, I guess.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Casurf1978 0 #18 May 6, 2004 It was OK for me too. Nothing like Braveheart, but a good movie. Whenever I watch movies of a certain period I cant imagine living in that age w/o anesthetic, anti-biotics, etc. Damn those were tough people. Can you imagine breaking a bone or compoound fracture in that era.
bch7773 0 #19 May 6, 2004 it was ok, but i personally wasn't impressed with it, except by the realism of the boat, cannon warfare, officers, etc. MB 3528, RB 1182
