Each time he tries to go online he is taken to a homepage that he doesent want. No matter what we try we cant get rid of the redirection to the dubious site. (even if we reset the homepage or delete all files to do with the dodgy site). I wont post a link to the site but is contains in the title "aifind". Does anyone know how to cure this problem?. DTOXX 0 #2 May 10, 2004 An adware type application (most likely a java executable from a web page) has hijacked his registry. Try using CWShredder to evaluate/repair the registry. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html ------- D.T. Holder SIMstudy
WrongWay 0 #3 May 10, 2004 Download Lavasoft Ad-Aware. It's free. Update it before you run it (you can from the first screen), then run the scan and delete everything it finds. 9 chances out of 10 that'll take care of it. Ad-Aware has been failing alot with the bowser hijackings. Try the CWShredder thing, if that fails try HijackThis http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.htmlit's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
falxori 0 #5 May 10, 2004 either adaware as mentioned above, or spybot search and destroy. both are good and spybot also immunes your systems against some of that crap. good hunting O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

d_squared431 0 #7 May 10, 2004 All you need to do is go into "my computer" then click on "internet options" check to see what the home page is set on and you can change it there. That is the easiest way to fix it.TPM Sister#130ONTIG#1 I love vodka.I love vodka cause it rhymes with Tuaca~LisaH You having a clean thought is like billyvance having a clean post.iluvtofly

By changing the registry options many of these hijacking butthead mother 3%$#^#@$^ (sorry) have made it possible for the user NOT to change the home page. Some of these are CoolWebSearch (aka CoolWwwSearch, YouFindAll, White-Pages.ws). These alter the functionallity of the browser by redirecting everything to a page stored on your hard drive. Doesn't work for every site (damn lazy developers!) but for the bulk of the time it's nice not having to worry about popups and there is a nice thin client out that discarded most of the fluff. wildblue 7 #10 May 11, 2004 QuoteYes and no. Which is super annoying. A lot of times they call a script from somewhere, and it runs that script all the time, and if you don't get every single registry entry out, the script puts them all back in the next time it runs. Uhg. Tres annoying.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
