You can burn your own Linux install CDs free and legal. Just go to LinuxISO, pick your distribution (RedHat 9 is a good starting point) and go.

If I had that much crap laying around I'd try and collect some unusual ones:
- BeOS
- QNX
- Longhorn (there's a prerelease out there somewhere)
- Solaris
- HURD
- Darwin

You can learn Linux in a weekend, esp if you pick up "linux for dummies"

However, it can take a while to really become a master at it.

BeOS...noice, haven't heard that mentioned in a long damn time. I've played with a couple PBXes that actually ran BeOS a number of years ago...

BeOS was so far ahead of it's time, and the BeBox (dedicated Be hardware) was incredible as well. Someday I want to get a BeBox, but there were only 1800 made, and 800 of those had the "good" (dual 133Mhz PowerPC) processors. Every once in a while one shows up on eBay, but they usually go for $500-1000. Too rich for my college student blood.

Right now in retrocomputing land I have my eyes on a NeXTstation Turbo. Mmm, Lisp.

On Linux and most other non-Windows OSes, the file extension doesn't really mean much. You need to tell the system that the program is executable. Do that by opening a terminal, going to the same directory where you downloaded the client, then running:

chmod +x FAH4Console-Linux.exe

Then run this command to start the client:

./FAH4Console-Linux.exe

The period and slash at the beginning are important.

Solaris is unusual?

I remember back in the day that the folks at QNX used to distribute a floppy image that booted the OS, an X session (complete with browser), and a PPP/SLIP (anyone remember SLIP?) dialer. Not bad for a floppy.

Retrocomputing. Haven't heard that term in a bit.

Anyone want a Tandy TRS-80, complete, with about every option you can thik of (tape drive/player. disk drives, printers, ect.) all in the original boxes?
A friend's departed husband always kept boxes, and everything that goes in them, and she's looking to unload....
