kelel01 1 #1 May 10, 2004 I swear to God . . . I am so pissed off right now. Please take this for what it is-- venting, plain and simple. And any suggestions would be helpful here. I have this friend who has epilepsy, and this weekend she got in her 4TH f#$%ing accident resulting from her having a seizure while driving. This has led me to believe that such stupidity exists on this earth that mandatory sterilization is sounding like a good idea. Her doctor has never revoked her license . . . her parents have bought her two new cars following the totaling of the first two . . . and she continues to choose to drive knowing that she could end up killing someone else. Fuck killing herself . . . I think we've all given up caring about that, since she continues to be so stupid. And let's not overlook the fact that she doesn't do anything she should to prevent them-- sleep, take her meds regularly, avoid alcohol, etc. I think that all of the people who continue to allow her to do this shit (herself included) should be BEATEN. I am SICK OF THIS!!!!!!!!! P.S. Haven't had a cigarette in 36 hours, so I might be a tad irritable right now. But that doesn't change the fact that this situation is PURE SHIT. catfishhunter 2 #2 May 10, 2004 why hasn't the state revoked her license?????? MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. kelel01 1 #3 May 10, 2004 Because as far as I can tell, the doctor has to recommend the revocation. I don't know if the police can do it when they find out the cause of the wreck. If they can, they haven't. And she's been to the ER three times now because of this. I don't understand how SO MANY PEOPLE can overlook this. piisfish 140 #6 May 10, 2004 in my country when you have that kind of accident, you loose your licence for some time due to Loss of Control of the Vehicle...scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
kelel01 1 #7 May 10, 2004 That's the standard here, as well, but my friend has managed to slip through the cracks for years. I'm 99% certain it's at hers and her parents' urgings that the doc hasn't revoked her license, for which all of them need to be beaten with a rake. Lindsey 0 #8 May 10, 2004 Hey Kelly. Sounds like your friend needs a good bitch slappin' In most states, the responsibility is on the patient to report themselves. Doctors are, in theory, protected by confidentiality laws if they do not report. However, they are usually not bound by confidentiality laws NOT to report. In a few states(including Arkansas where I live) the responsibility is on the physician, and doctors are mandated by law to report epilepsy to the state. Here, a patient cannot drive for 1 year after having a seizure. Peace~ Lindsey-- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. kelel01 1 #9 May 10, 2004 QuoteHey Kelly. Sounds like your friend needs a good bitch slappin'. Amen, sista. I think I'm gonna look into the law here in GA . . . Kelly
livendive 8 #10 May 10, 2004 I'm surprized she can still purchase liability insurance. If she can't, she can lose her license for driving without it. I got hit by a kid having some sort of diabetic seizure a couple years ago. When paying me off, his insurance company told me they had dropped him and figured he would be hard pressed to find someone else to cover him due to the way they report the "cause of accident." kelel01 1 #11 May 10, 2004 That is a very interesting point. I'm gonna look into that, too. I'm about at the point where I'll do anything to get her off the road. I don't know if I mentioned that all four accidents were in the past THREE YEARS. Kelly

Kelly In Canada, doctors are legally obligated to report a seizure to the DMV. The DMV then follows up. When I had my seizure in Dec 2002, my licence was revoked for a year and I had to get a neurologist to fill out a questionnaire to get it back. I would hope the laws are the same in the US!!!! All I know for sure is that even if I could have driven, I was shit scared to be alone in a car for awhile. I cannot the fucked up feeling of waking up with a paramedic staring at you and saying "Martin, you just had an accident, we're taking you to the hospital." You friend is obvously not bothered by the fact that she might kill or seriously injure someone by being an asshole. Not someone I would hang around with for very long... kelel01 1 #14 May 10, 2004 Well, guess what? I just looked up the law in GA, and Lindsey was 100% correct. It is on the individual to report it to the DMV, or the DMV is allowed to follow up on the patient's condition "at their discretion" (which is, I'm guessing, FUCKING NEVER). The doctor can't be sued for releasing that health information to the DMV, but they are also NOT OBLIGATED to provide it, which is utter bullshit in my opinion. The driver is supposed to be seizure free for 6 months in order to drive, and I doubt my friend has even been seizure free for one month in the past 5 years. Oh, well. I guess there's nothing I can do . . . Kelly
Sheenster303 0 #15 May 10, 2004 Don't you think after this fourth time that someone will get a clue and do something? I'd be very surprised if they allow her to drive anymore after so many accidents. Only a dumbass would continue to allow her to be out on the road. I know she's your friend and all, but have you talked to her about it? It seems like her parents aren't helping the situation. Maybe a good talking to from a friend or a bitch slap might just help the situation.I'm so funny I crack my head open! P.M.S. #
kelel01 1 #16 May 10, 2004 QuoteYou friend is obvously not bothered by the fact that she might kill or seriously injure someone by being an asshole. Not someone I would hang around with for very long... Excellent point . . . I believe I am misusing the term "friend". I call her this only because she has been a friend for a long time, but I find her irresponsibility and utter stupidity to be putting a huge strain on our once "friendship." Her roommate (my actual best friend) feels the exact same way. Kelly
kelel01 1 #17 May 10, 2004 Trust me, Sheena, no one's doing dick about this situation. And Leslie and I have told her how stupid she is to be driving and that we won't ever ride with her. So, I don't know what else to do, short of tipping off the DMV to check her medical records. Kelly
Sheenster303 0 #18 May 10, 2004 Damn that really sucks. I really hope I never happen to be driving down the road and finding her driving near me. Maybe someone should put a big sticker on the back of her car that says "If you drive near me, you have a good chance of being killed."I'm so funny I crack my head open! Brains 2 #19 May 10, 2004 QuoteSo, I don't know what else to do, short of tipping off the DMV to check her medical records. That is a good idea. I would also think that sooner or later, someone she was in the accident with will sue her, maybe a judge can influence the DMV to revoke her license. flyangel2 2 #20 May 10, 2004 QuoteSo, I don't know what else to do, short of tipping off the DMV to check her medical records If you don't do this, and your "friend" had another accident that killed someone, how would that make you feel? I know life isn't fair, but you have to be the one to step up to the plate and do something about this. lawrocket 3 #21 May 10, 2004 I see little difference between this person and a repeat DUI offender. I mean, if she is having that kind of seizure trouble, is she taking her anti-seizure meds on a regular basis? If she isn't, then that's a VERY bad thing, especially to keep driving. Maybe they should see whether she's maintaining the proper levels of anti-seizure medicine. Edited to add: Tell the police where she had her crash. I'm sure they'll be interested to include that information on their report. My wife is hotter than your wife.
kelel01 1 #22 May 10, 2004 Hey, if the general consensus is that that wouldn't be a shitty thing to do, I will not hesitate to contact the DMV. I just considered that overstepping my bounds. Kelly
Nightingale 0 #23 May 10, 2004 you can call the DMV. I would. I'd rather have my friend alive and potentially mad at me, than dead or severely injured in a car crash. She's not only a hazard to herself here... imagine what you'd feel like if she crashed into a car with a newborn baby inside?
