Nightingale 0 #2 May 13, 2004 here's two... they're both rough drafts, but you can get the idea of the formatting. first one is at www.nightingalesnest.net/krispaper.doc second one is at www.nightingalesnest.net/EDUC602FinalPaper.doc the second paper is probably closer to what you need. basic outline of a paper is abstract introduction review of literature methodology (if she did her own survey/research study) results/discussion/analysis conclusion works cited/bibliography
jumpergirl 0 #3 May 13, 2004 That helps some and she said "THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU" but she is still looking for more... Anyone? Anyone?
Nightingale 0 #4 May 13, 2004 tell her to write it, email it to me, and I'll help her proofread and organize. I've written so many of the damn things in grad school (thank god its over!!!) that I could probably do it sleepwalking. hmm... now that I think about it, I probably have. LOL. nightingale@nightingalesnest.net
jumpergirl 0 #5 May 13, 2004 She said to tell you that she thinks you are just the most beautiful thing she's ever seen! LOL Do you know the differnece between a qualitative and quantitave paper? Hers is a qualitative paper on a case study.

jumpergirl 0 #7 May 13, 2004 She went to that site yesterday and couldn't find what she needed there. She needs to know exactly how to lay it out. She hasn't written any kind of research paper in many years so this is all basically foreign to her. Do you know what a List of Tables is? What about a List of Figures? She's getting very frustrated and says she is ready to cut her arm off so she doesn't have to do it! LOL
Nightingale 0 #8 May 13, 2004 yup. Qualitative and Quantitative are types of analysis. Quantitative deals with numbers, "quantities." while qualitative tends to deal with individuals. Quantitative studies are very measurable, usually done with easily calculated surveys. Quantitative generally involves personal interviews. The second paper I posted was a quantitative study. I have a qualitative one, but its on my computer at home. The topic of my qualitative paper was the matriculation of second generation immigrants (their parents were immigrants, but they were born here) into society, and how they are perceived by new immigrants. were I to do a quantitative study, I'd have gotten a large group of second generation immigrants and a group of first generation immigrants and surveyed them, using an easily calculated Likert scale of 1-5, and a list of statements, such as "second generation immigrants forget their roots" and have them rate the statement as 1-strongly disagree through 5-strongly agree, and so on... what I actually did, since the paper was qualitative, was I chose two students in my class, one was a second generation, and one was first, and observed them, interviewed them, interviewed their family, friends, and other teachers, and drew conclusions accordingly. My study focused entirely on these two students, which, according to my research, others had drawn a similar conclusion. here's another link: http://www.asiamarketresearch.com/columns/market5.htm
Nightingale 0 #9 May 13, 2004 post the exact requirements from the professor, so I can read it. a list of tables or figures is something sometimes attached to a table of contents as a second or third page, stating where the tables and/or figures are located in your report and their titles. http://www.mdsg.umd.edu/wit/format.htm http://www.uwstout.edu/grad/faq_paper.html http://books.dillard.edu/Writing%20a%20scholarly%20paper.htm
jumpergirl 0 #10 May 13, 2004 This is jumpergirls friend. I am doing a Qualitative report by doing interviews and reading a ton of articles on Chemical pesticides and the effects, who it effects, and on and on. My problem is the book that they gave us for class is very vague. its an online course and it takes forever for the teacher to respond. I hate to even ask, but do you think you could email Jumpergirl your qualitative paper so I can have something to compare it to? Just for layout purposes so i know that Im taking the right path. Its been a very long time since i have had to write one of these things. Do you think you can help? Sandie
Nightingale 0 #11 May 13, 2004 when is your paper due? I won't be home til late tonight, which is the soonest I could get to the paper on my hard drive.
jumpergirl 0 #12 May 13, 2004 Thats the problem, she hasnt given us the exact requirements. Its all in the book she says. I have looked through the book, it gives and example of an outline for a qualitative study, here it is: Preliminaries Title page Acknowledgements table of contents list of tables list of figures Text Preface Chapter 1:Adaptive Change Chapter 2:A review of Early Jamaican History Chapter 3:The cultural ecosystem:elements of early Jamaican commercialism Chapter 4:Resource using subsyttems: the sugar estate Chapter 5:The system under stress: society's response Chapter 6Transformation of the cultural ecosystem Chapter 7Perspectives on adaptive change in cultural ecosystems References I am confused. Nightingale 0 #13 May 13, 2004 what's the length required? and is this for a graduate level class or undergrad?
jumpergirl 0 #14 May 13, 2004 The paper is due in 2 weeks, but i have to have the rough draft to her in by Sat. or Sun. I have to email it to her. I've been going nuts now for a while. I think i can wait another day. I do so very much appreciate this. your a blessing. Thank you, Sandie
jumpergirl 0 #15 May 13, 2004 THis is for a Graduate program. Bachelors. It hasnt specifically stated the length required because Qualitatives will vary depending on the subject.
Nightingale 0 #16 May 13, 2004 hmm... you're right. that outline makes no sense. I'd start by working on your literature review, since you have to put that in somewhere. start out by finding patterns in the literature... what do the main authorities agree on? what do they disagree on? and go from there. jumpergirl 0 #17 May 13, 2004 Well, I could email you what i have so far thats typed up and you could give your critique of it. What do you think?
