billvon 3,118 #27 May 14, 2004 I buy gas like once a month. It would be harder to remember to buy gas on may 19th than not buy gas.
kelpdiver 2 #28 May 14, 2004 Quote Ok, then how about this - California uses more gas than the other 49 states combined. CA is more spread out than the rest of the US? Citation, please. I don't buy it for a minute. 40.5 million gallons per day for CA. Texas alone is at 29.5, a higher rate per capita mind you. Florida #3 at 20.8, about same rate as CA. http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/oog/info/state/tx.html - and hop around. Can't find a national consumption here- elsewhere I see 9.1mil barrels/day, or 45% of the world use. That's about 380 million gallons - so CA's use looks to be pretty close to its share of the national population, and perhaps even lower. It also uses considerably less oil for heating. If people really want to do a gas out to protest the record profits at Chevron and other oil companies, then they need to actually reduce the use. A week of minimal driving, coupled with carpooling and/or mass transit, would actually garner a small effect. A long term transition to higher mileage cars, bikes, and carpooling would do a lot.
