Good news/bad news

Recommended Posts

Good News: Got a new computer at work:)
Bad News: Won’t let me download my IM stuff>:(

So, if you need to contact me, it’s going to have to be through PMs. This so sucks. I'm going to have to sweet talk the tech, and see if he can by pass it for me;)

you can configure AIM (dunno bout other IMs) to work around a proxy... you just have to know your proxy settings (in internet explorer under tools/internet options/connections/lan settings

AIM has a way to configure it to work through your proxy...I think its in "settings" or something. You have to put in the port numbers, and then it will work.

and to get the program there in the first place, if you're having trouble downloading it, just download it at home or kinkos or something and put it on a CD or disk.
I'm sorry, I'm not a techie, so I don't know the right words for it all, but that's basically how you do it.

It has nothing to do with Proxy problems :( bastards locked her down...she doesnt have admin rights....

If you butter them up Mar with chocolate or candy or something, you might be able to get them to let you install it...

ok. in internet explorer (web browser), click on "Tools" at the top of the screen.

next. click on "internet options" in the tools menu. That will open a box. In the box, click on the "connections" tab at the top of the box. Then, click on the box that says "LAN settings" and click on "Advanced". Write down the proxy server address and port number.

Next, go into AOL Instant Messager. Play around with the tabs until you find where you can put in that info. Probably under "connections" or "options" or something like that. AIM should work then. Sorry I can't find the exact stuff in AIM to click on, I don't have the program here.

This is what I get when I finish with the download for the IM yahoo chat.

You do not have access to make the required system configuration modifications. Please rerun this install from an administrators account

I'm on the college network, my tech is going to see what he can do.

That happened to me too....

So ya know what I did?

I kept bugging the computer tech with stupid admin stuff like adding printers etc.

Eventually they got so fed up they gave me admin rights and said "there, no you can install your own printers instead of bugging us"... hehe... yep, printers...sssuuuuurrrrreee ;)

Good luck Mary!

My problem is the tech is a work study student, and has to have "permission" to do anything:S
