Spelling...

Recommended Posts

Having been in TX for 3 years, I have noticed that the general quality of spelling around here is awful...

I am not refering to 'American English' v 'The Queen's English (color v colour etc), but simply bad spelling. When I drive along the I-35, or when I go anywhere further afield, I pass the time by 'spell spotting' (I need a life, I know).

Additionally, why is it that I always see signs that mix upper and lower case letters? "CoMe to oUR GaRaGe SAle at 10 aM" for example.

This isn't a dig at Americans, I was just curious, seeing as pre-University education over here seems impressive in comparison to the UK...

It's like that in a lot of places. It's really like that on the Internet too. Don't worry, the teacher's union will want more money to spend on some other non-core learning topic (aside from basic english), like "confidence boosting" with the claim of being able to fix it, while diagnosing every kid with ADD... :S:P
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

I think you will find poor spelling in every language all over the world, including the UK. It just comes with poorly educated people.

Of course, however, I wasn't used to seeing it on signs...

Even our fancy scroll text marriage certificate has a typo lol.

The mixed upper and lower case letters your seeing is done on purpose to catch peoples attention. Sometimes the words will be upside down as well. The whole purpose is to get you to read a sign you otherwise might just ignore. Advertising at its finest.

I recalled another example..lol..

My wife works at a Walmart Distribution warehouse, and they get freebie t-shirts. They had a 600 print run of t-shirts for all the associates. On the front of the t-shirt was 'Pershible Shipping' instead of Perishable.lmao

OK I'll quit now...I'm just thinking of what the Brits are known for..ahh...bad teeth!

I have always heard that stereotype, i never thought much about it. Then this morning i was filling up with diesel and when i went in to pay, there was this english guy and when i looked over at him, he had the worst teeth i have ever seen.:D:D
