Nightingale 0 #1 May 24, 2004 I'm trying to set something up with the Jim Wallace school at Perris to do my water training for my B license, hopefully over the Boogie weekend. If more than 2 people are interested, its $20 a person, otherwise, its $50, so I'm hoping to find some more interested people who are going to be at the boogie and want their water training out of the way so they can get their B. Anyone?
pilotdave 0 #2 May 25, 2004 A charge for freaking water training? Geez... it shouldn't cost more than a 6-pack. Waiting for water training sucks but I'd say find another instructor. Dave

There has to be someone around there who will do it just because they like to help up and coming skydivers. It's not like there's a whole lot to it.She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

I stopped doing it when someone stole my water rig.

That's all you'd be willing to give to someone who spent their time teaching you, provided their equipment for you to use and then spent their time airing, drying and putting away said equipment? Damn.

Damn. Amen Lisa. The instructor gets his rig wet, spends his time on you, it's worth a couple o' bucks. You can put me on the list, I need to get my belgian D license transferred to USPA and this is the only requirement I am missing on the list. I can't take time off during the week and normally this is run on a weeknight at my home dz. Thanks, Iwan

Nope, my water training was provided by a former golden knight that had done actual water landings (can't get better training than that), and he didn't charge a thing. And he had to travel a decent distance to get to us. But I can assure you we took up a nice collection and took him out to dinner. I mean, we're talking Perris here, right? Am I wrong that Perris has a pool? And beautiful southern california weather? $50 to give a few tips and watch you jump into the DZ pool wearing their old shit gear? I'm willing to bet a better deal can be found. I'm not saying an instructor doesn't deserve to get paid, I'm saying be a good consumer. There are lots of instructors out there that can teach water training. Dave
skybytch 273 #10 May 25, 2004 QuoteBut I can assure you we took up a nice collection and took him out to dinner. There's a difference between a roaming instructor and a school that is run as a business, which is what both schools at Perris are - businesses that have to pay employees and rent and utilities and buy gear and jumpsuits and altimeters and.... A nice dinner doesn't keep the lights on. Quote$50 to give a few tips and watch you jump into the DZ pool wearing their old shit gear? From what I'm reading it's only $50 if it's only one person getting the training. So she finds someone else who needs it and it's only $20 each - seems reasonable to me. Knowing who's doing the training at Perris I can guarantee it will be far more than "a few tips and watch you jump into the DZ pool wearing their old shit gear." Choosing who to get skydiving related training from - especially training that might save your life someday - based solely on price doesn't seem real smart to me.
