jakee 1,564 #2 May 24, 2004 Don't even get me started. Sellers is an absolute legend, who else could have stolen a scene from David Niven let alone the entire movie. Steve Martin's done some good stuff but he just doesn't compare. I get the feeling that he'll just play a clumsy version of Steve Martin instead of taking on the charachter the way Sellers could.Do you want to have an ideagasm? His film work may not have all been dazzling but just think of Dr Strangelove. Besides, Steve Martins best days are well behind him now, he's started doing sentimental family moral message type stuff, ughh. OMG Dr.StrangeLove what an awesome movie. How many roles did sellers' play, God just thinking about that movie makes me bust up. The random "sieg heils" by the Dr. is classic. No way Martin could play that many roles, no way in hell. Anyone ever seen The Party? Another classic. I would have a fit if Hollywood decided to remake Strangelove. kallend 2,112 #9 May 24, 2004 Sellers was in the original version of The Ladykillers with Alec Guinness. That's just been remade by Tom Hanks. I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. He was also wonderful as "Kite" in "I'm All Right Jack". He made a couple of albums too (Songs for Swinging Sellers was one).... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. If you LOOK at film, there's only about 7 stories told over and over again..'boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back'...'cinderella' (one more Pretty Woman and I'm gonna start throwing out hostages). Les Liasonnes Dangerouses (my FAVORITE book) has been made over SO many times its not even funny (even fellini took it on and stuck the socialites in a ski chalet). I like Martin...I LOVE Sellers..wait..I LOVE Martin too. You can't LOOK at that face and not laugh. Klein is funny as HELL, and you guys KNOW it, so lets just hang out and see how Martin handles it. And yes, per the article there have been SEVERAL James Bonds and we can't begin to count the Santa Clauses . Drawing parallels with Bond is reasonable, there's only one Bond, all others are supplemental to Connery's performances. I like Steve Martin, but I think he has gone off the boil of late. Dead Men Don't wear Plaid is an excellent, clever, and very funny movie. As is the Jerk, All of Me, and The Man with Two Brains, but he started to go a little downhill with LA Story and most of what followed. I think Sellers might approve of Steve carrying the torch on a revisit to the PP series, I reckon Kevin Kline will make a great replacement for Herbert Lom, Jean Reno might fill Burt Kwouk's boots as Cato, and Beyonce is (presumably) only there for eye candy ("Beyonce said her familiarity was mostly with the cartoon version pink panther"....nuff said?) Sellers on the other hand had a genius for creating comic persona's that will never be matched. Watch any film of his where he played multiple characters and each one is perfectly formed in its own right with no similarities to the others.
