Laptop cases

Recommended Posts

On my recent trip to CA I brought my laptop.

I didn't bring the bag I normally carry it in because I wanted to bring a different shoulder bag to carry additional stuff. I placed the laptop (padded with a coat of mine) in the bag with the other 'stuff' and must have done something becuase somewhere between arriving in CA and turning it on the next morning it died. There's some type of hardware failure, which probably means that the bag didn't do a good enough job protecting it.

I feel like an idiot... but I really don't like the laptop bag. Anyone have a slim HARD laptop case/bag that they like? I'd like something that wouldn't mean sacrificing space.

TIA,

Expensive but pretty much indestructible, I have a medium sized one for my laptop, cameras etc, and only have good words to say about them. My one has survived 5 years of international and oilfield travel and more importantly, my laptop has survived ready for use after the baggage handlers have done their best to bust it.:)

Those seem good... but are still a bit large. I'm looking for something similar to a laptop like sleave. I want to be able to put it into the shoulder bag I brought with me without filling up the entire bag.

I'm fairly new to the 'laptop scene' so perhaps there isn't one at all and I'm just grasping at straws...

Try EBags.com. Then look for laptop backpacks and the like. Very good selection at great prices. I dont think they sell hard sided cases but backpacks are easy to carry and have tons of room for accessories.

A tip, you can have hard-core protection or sleek and stylish. You can't have both. If you're traveling, a laptop is either carry on or in a Pelican, end of story.

Ya, carryon is a given... but does it have to be the only bag thats carried on? With the limits they put on carry on items if I want to bring other stuff - which I do, like my camera, MP3 player, cross-stitching stuff, then I need a seperate bag. Well... I'd like to combine it into one bag (which is what I tried this last trip) and it left the laptop without enough protection. I want to get a nice 'case' for the laptop that I could put into this shoulder bag and still have room for the other stuff without turning it into a huge ass bag.

You can get padded laptop cases that look like bookbags, that have the padded "slot" for the laptop and the rest of the bag for everything else.

Still not as squared away as a pelican, though.

My laptop case (soft) has a padded insert that fits the lappy snugly. This insert is removable, and would fit in any other bag. Look for a bag like that, it's sweet.

Someplace like Bestbuys or similar will have something for you then.
I'd still urge you to consider the Pelican.
I reckon Aggie could drive his truck over one without harming the laptop. And thats some pretty heavy duty abuse. Anything short of a Pelican and your deluding yourself as to its protective qualities. When you buy your chosen bag, ask the sales assistant to demonstrate its rugosity with one of their own laptops, say by dropping it .......

Good idea!

I'm hoping to get a new laptop later this year, and I'll get a really good case then.

Thanks!
