Bottom line, skydivers are just like everyone else. THe fact that we do things most others don't/wouldn't doesn't make us better in bed or more horny than anyone else.

THe majority of you all need to quit being so self-serving and just be humble about what you do. Do you realize how many times I've been at bars and hear some rookie skydiver try and brag to women and anyone else who will listen that he's a skydiver?

I can agree with you from a basic standpoint regarding a few of your arguments. Being a skydiver in and of itself most likely doesn't pre-determine you to be more frisky or whatever. I don't think thats the underlying argument of the article (and the research behind it.) The argument is that there are genetic pre-dispositions to certain activities. The fact is that chemical changes or differences cause people to have different behaviors.

I don't think its far fetched to think that what is being said in this article has quite a bit of truth behind it. This isn't the first place or time that I have heard that argument. There has been quite a bit of research on high risk takers. I just read a 25 page article that was published in a scholarly journal about the consumption of high risk activities with a focus on the skydiving sub culture.


I don't see how you can state that we are "just like everyone else" and then turn around and say that we do thinks most other people wouldn't. That in itself makes us differnt than most people. The last article I read made some very interesting comparisons between skydiving and other risk based activities and looked at the psychological reasons and progressions of skydivers from novice to experienced.

Either way, I think that the thread starter was trying to ask a "fun" question and everyone jumped on him for it. I think that some of the culture of skydivers and dropzones promotes permiscous behavior which coupled with a genetic predisposition that _some_ people who skydive might have would lead to skydivers having a higher sex drive. (or whatever you want to call it)

Its not specifically the act of skydiving that causes it but rather the emotional and mental responses involved with skydiving and its sub culture.

Except that guy likely isn't a true skydiver. They'll jump for a year or two because they like the concept, then get bored and move on to the next cool thing.

Profile someone who's been in the sport regularly for 10 years and I'll bet you see some definate trait differences. Those differences won't make him or her "better" either, some of those differences are likely healthy while others probably aren't.

I think you have the wrong idea here. Just because there are some self-loathing "show my tits and make out with everyone cuz I make my presence known" attention cravers out there doesn't mean we're ALL like that. How would you like to be judged by someone else's actions? Fatality rates in the eyes of whuffos could be a good example of this. Our entire sport (millions of skydives) is judged by the general public off of a few accidents, and now they all think we're suicidal or insane. It could go with any association within a certain group, like "all germans are nazis" or "all gays talk with a lisp" or "everybody hiccups when they're drunk".

Therefore, a select few create views and reputations for groups as a whole, right or wrong. While you may see lots of naked chicks when you go to Rantoul, that certainly doesn't mean you're any hornier than you were before, nor does it mean your chances go up.

So go hit the bathroom ya horny manatee!!!

No the people who know me didn't understand the simple post. This has nothing to do with putting people into a group. It's about understanding a group. By the way I dont think that ALL skydivers fit that catagory, but if you sifted through society I think you would find a common link between skydivers and those with high sex drives ( among other things.)
I dont mean to say ONLY skydivers have a high sex drive or ONLY those with high sex drives skydive. All I am saying is that Im a nymp.

Speaking of those in a sport as a group and speaking of those in a country as a group are two different things. Now, if you had said that skydivers are xxxx, swimmers are yyyy, and gymnasts are zzzz, then your comparison would've worked a little better:)

Hmm, I think my sex drive really did increase after I started skydiving... wait, tho, I don't know if it was due to skydivingsince I started dating a sexy, super awesome guy shortly after. Too many variables changed at once, I don't think my chem professor would approve.
