D22369 0 #1 May 28, 2004 hey all, I have a 3 yr old emachine with a 17" monitor that is steadily getting darker, the brightness is already near max, is it dying or is there something that I can do to fix this problem? I have already de-gaused it. Once in a while when I turn it on its back to normal and looks great, the resolution of print and pictures is fine - just the darkness is the problem..... I can get another monitor for 100$ but I am cheeeaaapp----- thats a couple of jumps Thanks; RoyThey say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it. Flyer2Diver 0 #2 May 28, 2004 Unfortunately there's not much you can do about that - the phosphors in CRT monitors wear out over time and cannot be replaced. The best way to prevent this is to make sure to put the monitor into energy-saver mode when it is not in-use, or use a blank-screen screen-saver. Screen savers which have pretty pictures, effects, etc. do prevent burn-in of patterns on the screen, but they will still wear out the phosphors over time.
