TitaniumLegs 8 #1 May 29, 2004 For a while there, PD named their canopies (or most of them) after some kind of blade - Sabre, Stiletto... (I have a Stiletto in my Javelin - confuses the whuffos.) I kept waiting for them to release a pilot chute called "Bayonet" or "Switchblade".... OK, it's getting silly. I'm going home. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me. CloudOnMyTongue 0 #2 May 29, 2004 They didn't change their canopy names, all their canopies are named after airplanes. (i know this from reading forums here.)
bch7773 0 #3 May 29, 2004 Quote They didn't change their canopy names, all their canopies are named after airplanes. no way. theres airplanes called the stilleto, sabre, katana? well maybe, but i KNOW there's no airplanes named the sabre2, 9-cell, and 7-cell MB 3528, RB 1182
AggieDave 6 #4 May 29, 2004 Or a PD Coed (really old school PD, before they moved to Deland). All of the "modern" names, though are named after planes, generally really shitty planes that were named after some sort of edged weapon.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." pilotdave 0 #5 May 29, 2004 Quote well maybe, but i KNOW there's no airplanes named the sabre2, 9-cell, and 7-cell There was a Super Sabre which woulda been a cooler name than sabre2. And I think if they're gonna stick with the blade theme, they should pick appropriately sized blades. Their next tiny little high performance canopy should be the X-acto or something. Unstable 9 #9 May 29, 2004 Here ya go, maybe this will help clear some questions up - I'll be the first to say that PD names their canopies after some pretty goofy Aircraft...=========Shaun ==========
pilotdave 0 #10 May 30, 2004 ...one more. Took a lot of searching, but Janes All the World's Aircraft came through. Dave
markbaur 0 #11 May 30, 2004 And another one: http://www.velocityaircraft.com/. And another one: http://www.excaliburaircraft.com/. Google comes through. The competition must use the same branding service: How about: www.ravenaircraft.com And: http://www.nasm.si.edu/research/aero/aircraft/icarus.htm. Taras was a 7th-grade friend of mine. A stretch: http://www.full-lotus.com/. This one's a little different. First the Para-Flite canopy, then the airplane: http://www.cirrusdesign.com/. On the other hand, first the airplane, then the Para-Flite canopy and container: http://www.napanet.net/~arbeau/swift/. Are we done yet? Mark

Unstable 9 #13 May 30, 2004 Sheesh, the Katana, excalibur, and Velocity are goofy little Airplanes - They should have named them after the Blackbird or something..... =========Shaun ==========
AggieDave 6 #14 May 30, 2004 Quote They should have named them after the Blackbird or something. Yeah, but there have already been canopies called the SR71 and the Stealth, although the stealth never made it into actual production, it was made by the mad scientist (Lenord Moorehead) for a few people.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
