Why did PD change their naming scheme?

Recommended Posts

For a while there, PD named their canopies (or most of them) after some kind of blade - Sabre, Stiletto...
(I have a Stiletto in my Javelin - confuses the whuffos.)

I kept waiting for them to release a pilot chute called "Bayonet" or "Switchblade"....

OK, it's getting silly. I'm going home.

They didn't change their canopy names, all their canopies are named after airplanes.

Or a PD Coed (really old school PD, before they moved to Deland).

All of the "modern" names, though are named after planes, generally really shitty planes that were named after some sort of edged weapon.

There was a Super Sabre which woulda been a cooler name than sabre2.

And I think if they're gonna stick with the blade theme, they should pick appropriately sized blades. Their next tiny little high performance canopy should be the X-acto or something.

And another one: http://www.velocityaircraft.com/.
And another one: http://www.excaliburaircraft.com/.

Google comes through.

The competition must use the same branding service:
How about: www.ravenaircraft.com
And: http://www.nasm.si.edu/research/aero/aircraft/icarus.htm. Taras was a 7th-grade friend of mine.
A stretch: http://www.full-lotus.com/.
This one's a little different. First the Para-Flite canopy, then the airplane: http://www.cirrusdesign.com/.
On the other hand, first the airplane, then the Para-Flite canopy and container: http://www.napanet.net/~arbeau/swift/.

Are we done yet?

They should have named them after the Blackbird or something.

Yeah, but there have already been canopies called the SR71 and the Stealth, although the stealth never made it into actual production, it was made by the mad scientist (Lenord Moorehead) for a few people.

...and we have an antique on the shelf at DZ called a 'Nimbus' that predates Harry Potter by quite some time - I wonder if J.K. ever jumped?;)

Or "the bone saw" for when you femur it in.

Brand name 'Stryker'.

Fits right in with Spectre, Sabre, and Stiletto, doesn't it?
