kemaljump 0 #1 April 22, 2010 Hello Guys... I want to learn about the size that you guys can recommed to me for my reserve I want to buy... I can not decide if I should purchas 143 sqfeet Optimum PDR or 126 sqfeet Optimum PDR for my weight...becouse when I check the order forms the limitations shows to me 143 sqfeet reserve (especiallay the PD Optimum) but I want that reserve as small as possible for smaller rit.. I am 183 cm tall and 83 (naked) kg... I am very experienced parachutist and my main rig is that Crossfire 119 sqfeet... and I want a Javelin Odyssey as much small as it can be... I like it to be very small rig and at lease that much I want safe jumps with my rig and reserve... what are your reccomendations.. thanks....
billvon 3,111 #2 April 22, 2010 If you have a Cypres, consider which reserve you want to land under while unconscious. Personally, my main is a Crossfire2 109 loaded at about 1.9 to 1, and my reserve is a PDR143.
kemaljump 0 #3 April 22, 2010 Thank you Bilvon.. But I want to learn about if I purchase 126 sqfeet Optimum PD reserve canopy, will it load me safely for landing and will it be safe for maximum suspending weight while opening, or will be some tears or some other thins while opening or navigating with the cannopy? will it swoop and land safetly? I am asking these questions, becouse, in some different dropzones, I have seen many experienced skydivers whose rigs are very very small, I am not worried about the main canopy that will be very small size and would carry me or not safely, but the reserve cannopy? if you please inform me about that a little bit detailed, I will be very happy... so my preference will be (if you say okay, it is safe) 126 Optimum PD Reserve and 119 Crossfire2 with Javelin Odyssey NJK size... Deyan 36 #4 April 22, 2010 Both reserves are listed up to 115 kg max. But why not Optimum 143 into TJNK?! You are a big guy. The size of the rig should be the last thing you should worry about. The difference between NJK and TJNK is not so big. You hardly can see it and I'm sure that you can't feel it when the rig is on your back. DrewEckhardt 0 #5 April 22, 2010 143 You'll be happier if you are incapacitated and/or landing out. Once the rig fits into an airline-legal carry on it's small enough; and when you have a long torso a longer rig puts the pilot chute in a better location. I have a Samurai 105 main loaded around 1.9 pounds per square foot and PDR143 at 1.4.

Are you really asking if your reserve will swoop? I guess it depends on what you want your reserve for. If you want it to swoop, then a smaller reserve might do that; it generally won't blow up any more than a main of that size will. It can also have the same problems that heavily loaded mains have, like the ability to spin up due to minor problems (like a premature toggle release.) If you want it to save your life, a larger reserve will do a better job of that. That's why I have a small main and a large reserve. Do you have an AAD on your rig? >I have seen many experienced skydivers whose rigs are very very small . . . I have as well; I've watched some of them seriously injure themselves trying to land those small reserves. I've also seen experienced skydivers with larger rigs. You should choose gear that will land you safely under even bad conditions rather than gear that will look small and cool (IMO.)
ridestrong 1 #7 April 23, 2010 Quote will it swoop and land safetly? Cause who would want a reserve that you can't swoop with. You should just get a JVX 78 and use that for your reserve.*I am not afraid of dying... jurgencamps 0 #8 April 23, 2010 If you want a small packvolume and a reseve which lands fine, try also the speed from paratec. BTW I jump a velo 90 and a 150 reserve. No need to swoop the reserve. But do you really want a high wingloading when you land your reserve on, for example, a tenniscourt over some trees and have to stop before the tennisnet (I did this) or during a funnel, you get your shoulder dislocated and can only use one arm, ... (not me, but happened to a friend)? Which canopy do you prefer? Jurgen
kemaljump 0 #9 April 23, 2010 First of all I want to thank all of you becouse you have replied to me and recommended to me very very valuable knowlages... thanks so much... I guess, I made a mistake when I was asking about landing with the reserve by saying "swoop", I have just intended to say landing safe by flaring safely in small arees... Forgive me please for my wrong asking.... As a result, I guess I will chose 143 sqfeet Optimum PD reserve with main canopy 119 sqfeet Crossfire2 and rig asl Javelin Osyssey TJNK or DNKY... What do you guys say and how do you criticize for my this choosing combination? And yes, I use AAD (cypres2 expert) and I never prefer jumping without AAD's... Many thanks to all of your recommendations, replies and critiques...
billvon 3,111 #10 April 23, 2010 >As a result, I guess I will chose 143 sqfeet Optimum PD reserve with >main canopy 119 sqfeet Crossfire2 . . . Sounds like that might be a better choice of reserve size, especially if you have an AAD "in case you get knocked out."
