How has your life changed in the last year?

Recommended Posts

A year ago today (June 7) I kissed my wife for the first time. Since then I quite my job, moved 240 miles north from the downtown LA glitz to Fresno, moved in with her, took a new job, quit the job, got married, started my own firm with her, moved to a house, and got started on a family.

I cry at movies now.

I haven't jumped in a year, nor have I even golfed in over a year.

I've learned carpentry, and have helped build a house.

My credit cards are paid off and my only debt is student loans and a car payment. Down from 16k in credit card debt before.

I quit tobacco.

It's been the best year of my life (yes, even without golf or jumping).

Post your accomplishments and failures of the last year. I'd love to read this to pick up my day!

My wife is hotter than your wife.

Just over a year ago I quit my (secure, solid) job to spend the summer traveling and playing. I really had no idea what I was going to do after the summer.

Since then I...

- went on the motorhome trip from hell, California to Tennessee and back, with a (now ex) friend.

- flew to Florida and jumped at Deland and Sebastian for the first time.

- spent a few days at the craps tables in Reno with my ex.

- drove to and from southern California to Rantoul, IL for WFFC.

- packed most of my shit and moved to Florida.

- turned a gift shop into a gear store.

- became a part owner in said gear store.

- partied my way through a boogie held in my honor.

- drove 1400 miles one way - on a whim - to surprise a friend.

- spent my first Christmas away from my son and family. And it wasn't too bad.

- learned what it's like to really miss your family.

- went back to California, visited, picked up more stuff and drove it back to Florida.

- was introduced to tunnel crack.

- am very proud of my son for earning his private pilot license.

- went back to California again, hung out with good people and did my 1000th jump. Finally.

- met lots of cool people, made some good friends, had a whole lot of fun.

Not a bad 12 months overall. B|

...welcome to the club! ;)

I've had a very good year, too.

I passed all of my classes in school. It was no small task, but I succeeded and am on my way to fulfilling my dream of being a doctor. Passing my classes after struggling academically reminded me that hard work and a little luck makes things possible.

I started skydiving a year ago. What an awesome sport! I've lived my dreams in more ways than one.

I am spending time with my grandma (who helped raise me when I was a kid) before she dies. This will most likely be the last time I get to spend with her before the cancer takes her. I feel blessed for the time I have with her.

I held my newest niece this week. Now I have three little girls to love on. They are they all beautiful and loving and full of energy and life. I love them so much!!

And, I've fallen in love! I've met a man who makes me happy and treats me well and that's not an easy find in Missy's world. My life feels richer with him in it.

Overall, and despite some ups and downs, I'd say this past year has been a good one. As for personal changes, I'd say that the big ones for me are having faith in my own abilities and intelligence and opening my heart to love despite the fear that my dating past has instilled. I'm looking forward to another good year!

The last year has been busy:

June 7th, 2003 - Was sweating my ass off in Kuwait, looking rather intimidating with my Brett Favre jersey and Mossberg shotgun.

July 2003 - Returned safely from the war having suffered only a partial tear of my achille's tendon (shot put contest while bored) and a damaged nerve in my wrist (wrestling match that ended in a nasty thorn bush).

September 2003 - Separated from the military with 60+ days of vacation left on the books. Pitched a tent at Skydive Chicago and started AFP.

October 2003 - Graduated AFP and said, "Yeeee Haaaa".

November 2003 - Officially out of the Navy, took a job with the Department of Defense and had to leave the girlfriend.

March 2004 - Spent 3 weeks in Alaska on the Government dime!!!!!! Beautiful.

March 2004 - Hated the DOD job and decided to quit while eating breakfast at IHOP. Quit job over a cell phone while chewing blueberry pancakes. After 7 years in the Navy, quitting a job was FUN FUN FUN.

March 2004 - moved back in with Mom and Dad (unemployed) at the age of 29. Needless to say - no girlfriend at this point.

April 19, 2004 - Started a wonderful new job on my Dad's birthday...

May 2004 - Sold my truck and bought a Jetta

Couple days later - My cousin told me he thought I was gay cause I had no girlfriend and drove a Jetta.

June 1st 2004 - Moved into a new apartment.

That's the cliff notes version.

Insert a few jumps here and there and we're talking about a good year....

Still need a girlfriend...

Damn what a year it has been.In the last year I have:

- Paid off ALL of my remaining $4K of credit card debt.Leaving me with just a monthly truck payment.
- Attended my first WFFC and had a kick ass time even if it was sans jumping.Celebrated my 21st B-day there too!
- Traveled to CA for the first time. Saw the beauty of the Pacific and had a blast at a semi-nekkid Perris pool party that supposedly didn't happen. ;)
- Got my first body piercing
- Ended community college with 3 consecutive 4.0 semesters from SummerI 03-Spring 04.
- Applied and was accepted to my #1 university choice, Sam Houston State University, where I will take up residence in Fall 04.
- Made the choice to double major in Psychology and Criminal Justice rather than just a BA in CJ.
- Finally let go of ALOT of emotional baggage.
- Have learned to better cope with being Bi-Polar without taking medications.
- Got my 2nd tattoo
- Shortened my hair length by about 12inches for Locks of Love..still waiting for it to grow back out.lol!
- Sold my gear and made the decision to quit jumping indefinitely (atleast until I finish school.)
- Survived a broken heart.

So much more that I'm not listing! Alot of things learned, loved, gained and lost. Just gotta keep going, looking to the horizon and hoping for the future.

ArcAngel0223,

While in the Navy, I was a Hospital Corpsman (medic). Corpsmen get to do a little bit of everything, because medical personnel are needed erverywhere. I didn't work for any special forces teams, but I was an infantry medic with 1st Marine Division for three years and in Kuwait I was part of a small Army, Navy, Coast Guard team of medics. About 20 of us turned a small abandoned building into a clinic and supported the movement of supplies into Iraq right at the outset of the war. We got to play with some fun weapons because we had to transfer a lot of patients through some unsecured areas. So, we would cruise around in these Mitsubishi Pajero SUVs packing serious heat. But, the only real action I saw was a few missiles coming our way.

Oh yeah, while in Kuwait, my buddy Ryan and I stole a grill from the SEALs. We used it to barbecue steak and lobsters. Suckers. Really, though, SEALs / RECON are a dedicated bunch of guys that lead a lifestyle most wouldn't want anything to do with. So many people focus on the difficulty of the training. But man, it's the lifestyle that will kill you.
