Homemade tank rampage in Colorado!

Recommended Posts

Hey colorado people! Someone get us some more info on this wackjob!

http://rockymountainnews.com/drmn/state/article/0,1299,DRMN_21_2939053,00.html

Hi wildcard

I saw some of the damage on the news. IMO he doesn't meet the legal definition od a wackjob.

Looks to me like he's a disgruntled bussiness/property owner that had some kind of a plan to demonstrate his opinion of the way he was treated by the local officals in a rezoning issue.

Hope no one gets hurt before he calms down, runs out of ammo. The damage can be repaired. Once A human life is gone either Law enforcement or the guy in the cat their gone.:(

I was just on the phone with a friend who is up there right now. He spends about a month per year in the area and even had a muffler installed by the guy. He tells me that the guy has been getting screwed over for years by the town placing restrictions on what he can do with his property, while all of his neighbors have been making a killing by developing theirs.

It looks like he was trying not to hurt anyone during the rampage.
Actually, I thought the entire thing was kinda funny... I can picture 20 cops running after it, all shooting at it with no effect, cursing and yelling.

it reminds me of that guy who stole a tank from a defense plant and went nuts too.

Apparently he shot himself at the end.

I can't imagine getting that angry about anything...

Sounds like the guy was kinda taking it in the rear for a while tho, felt helpless and emasculized, and decided to lash out.

He certainly made an impression, pun very much intended.

Hi Dougiefresh

The "beast" is in all of us. Sounds like the guy was a captive victim of the good old boy system and just couldn't take it anymore.

He ended up in a win lose situation. He won by getting good old boy's attention and lost by getting himself in serious trouble (dead). At least he didn't go postal:S

I prefer the win win method:)It can be done just have to have a plan so no one gets hurt and you don't get in trouble.

Been there done that:)R.I.P.

I must say I got a laugh out of the newspaper site with that quote "this stuff happens in big cities" (well, near enuf to the quote):P Hasn't happened in the Portland metro area that I'm aware of;) I would agree that the dude was a whackjob, too bad he killed himself tho.

My favorite part of the article was, "When I saw the tank-looking thing, I went home."

If I saw a tank-looking thing driving down the street knocking over buildings with 2 guns out the front, I'd tear ass. This guy seems so calm about it.

Yeah, you know, same old shit, different day. :S

This reads like fiction. Some choice quotes:

Quote

Docheff, witnesses said, hopped into a piece of heavy equipment and unsuccessfully tried to battle him to a standstill.

Was the above anything like that robot fighting tv show?

"I saw the bulldozer taking down town hall," Ross said. "From a block away, I could see the armor plating. When I saw a tank-looking thing I went home."

A smart man.

"It's a nightmare. This is the kind of thing that happens in big cities."

Yeah, I hate how Miami has big armored bulldozers rampaging through it. :S

I've heard from a resident of the area that police are looking for an accomplice.
It is believed that he (Mr. Heemeyer) had help in welding the "main hatch" closed from the outside.

A person might wonder what motivated the accomplice to "help" in this incident.

The fact that it was welded from the outside doesn't necessarily mean that he wasn't working alone. He was motivated and technically skilled enough to make a homemade tank. Given the tools, time, and motivation, I could figure out a way to weld myself into a box. Fortunately, I'm not planning a rampage... anytime soon anyway. :P

Proper motivation to weld myself into a box would be one of those fine skydiving ladies willing to be in there with me. ;)

Accoring to the press report :Sposted by Mark.

The disgruntled bad guy was driving a D-9 cat and was blocked by a D-11 cat.

Anyone know of a cat. bigger than a D-11?

BTW i don't think many folks in the "big city" don't own caterpiller tractor's (no place to park etc):)
Stay tuned for the sequel

I haven't read any followups on this story -- just the linked one -- but I could see this guy becoming some kind of folk hero. I'm sure a lot of people have been shafted by crooked scumbag small-town commissioners and zoning boards.

Does this incident remind anybody else of this bad 80's movie with James Garner?
