AggieDave 6 #1 June 8, 2004 Why? It gave me justification, that why. Clicky It is being delievered in a couple of days. With everything, bottom line price per month (including gas) its still cheaper than the monthly gas bill from driving my truck. No I'm not selling my truck, its too useful for that, I just needed something to drive around town (to school/work/etc) that would save me some money. Too bad to save money I had to get something cool.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
AggieDave 6 #2 June 8, 2004 Oh, nevermind that its so much easier to park on Texas A&M's campus with a motorcycle. Now I can park in the middle of main campus, right next to some of my classes, instead of parking in the "blue" lots that are roughly a 3 mile walk to class.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Brains 2 #4 June 8, 2004 QuoteYay! Congrats and have fun. Remember, all those cars are trying to kill you... So true. Saturday night, asshat driving wrong way on I35, blew by me doing easily 70 in the lft lane. He hit one of the three bikes behind me almost head on. Be careful, and let me ride it when i get there. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.
wildblue 7 #5 June 8, 2004 QuoteI just needed something to drive around town (to school/work/etc) that would save me some money You should have bought a little scooter then. You can't use 'gas savings' to justify buying a motorcycle, it just doesn't work. Sure, it uses less gas, but you'll end up riding it just to ride it, so you won't be saving money. Good try though it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
PhillyKev 0 #6 June 8, 2004 Dave, you're a big guy. You'll hate that bike in a month and want a bigger engine. I've been riding friends bikes for a couple months while I figure what I want and where the hell I can keep it. Started out on a Sportster 883, a month later it felt like a dirt bike. Been riding a Dyna Glide, twin cam 88 (about 1400ccs) for a few weeks, and it fits much better.
Kris 0 #7 June 8, 2004 awwwww.....what a cute lil' bike! Seriously though, congrats on the new toy. Now, let me be the first of many to tell you to immediately get thyself to an MSF rider's course (http://www.msf-usa.org), and don't be a squid. Wear gear, dammit. In order of what you shoud have it's: Helmet (no, not one of those stupid replica helmets, get something DOT and SNELL approved), Jacket, Gloves, Boots. I just picked up a pair http://www.dragginjeans.com and you can't tell them apart from regular jeans, but they offer worlds of protection over normal jeans. Ride safe, have fun, and if you remember that every cage on the road is trying to kill you and you'll probably be okay. Dumpster 0 #10 June 8, 2004 Yes indeed - EVERYONE on four wheels has just become your enemy when you're on the bike. They are looking for the first opportunity to make a left turn in front of you, blow a redlight and t-bone your ass, tailgate you so close the can count the hairs on your neck, etc etc etc - And when these shithooks to take some biker out, they use the "I Didn't See Him" defense. Enjoy the hell out of the bike! You'll find it's the best mode of transportation to the DZ on a beautiful day. Chicks dig'em, too. Easy Does It

Yep. With Janklow only spending 100 days in jail, the AMA is trying to get legislation passed to increase the criminal penalties for hitting a biker. I just came back from a scoot on my Harley Fat Boy and was forced to liberally use my horn. I also find swerving from side to side and making sure when I approach an intersection that I place myself in the most visible spot is helpful.
AggieDave 6 #13 June 8, 2004 Quote Why such a small bike? Bottom line...$$$$, remember I *am* still in college and Im' a skydiver. And I need a "learning" bike, although I grew up riding dirt bikes, I don't have much experience with road bikes. I figure this will get me through a year or so, until I'm out of school and have a "real" job, then I can buy a HD FatBoy.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." PhillyKev 0 #14 June 8, 2004 Then why not used? You're pretty much guaranteed to drop your first bike at least once. It doesn't hurt as much when it doesn't have a nice shiny paint job. Hell, you could get a 2002 Harley Sportster 883, with a couple thousand miles on it for that price.
AggieDave 6 #15 June 8, 2004 The financing. Basically, I can ride this bike pretty cheap for a couple of years, sell it at the end or pay it off as I get away from school and into a real job. The minimum payment is $49 a month. Obviously it would be asinine to only pay that much a month, but if I had to, I could. This is truely a gas saver compared to my truck and a "learner" bike that I can still enjoy and ride around with. Like I said previously, I'll get the expensive bike that I've been dreaming of later, when I can and when I have more experience.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." bodypilot1 0 #16 June 8, 2004 Congrats Dave Here is a pic of mine. Bought it brand new in 83 and have about 90,000 miles on it. It an FXWG. I rebuilt it a couple times over the years because I wanted a different cam and repaint it. This paint job I did myself. It never marks it's stop either, as many people think they do. Be safe. And REMEMBER all the drivers are out to kill you if you let them. -www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com
PhillyKev 0 #17 June 8, 2004 That's cool. And congratulations. Wasn't trying to bust your balls. Just offering some advice. I was planning on getting a suzuki marauder, pretty comparable to what you're getting and a friend talked me out of it with the info I gave you. Just passing it along. Any way it goes, though, all that matter is that you're in the wind.
AggieDave 6 #18 June 8, 2004 I looked at one of those bikes as well, the marauder, as well as the 800 Classic. Both were my price range and had the same sort of financing. Thank you for your advice! It was something I've been thinking about for a while, and decided that my first "road" bike would be in the 800 range so I'd have something to learn on before I downsized to a higher performance...I mean, get a bigger bike.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
PhillyKev 0 #19 June 8, 2004 Heheh.....I was thinking as I was typing this that I was advocating getting a smaller parachute so that you don't have to downsize later
AggieDave 6 #20 June 8, 2004 Doesn't everyone do that? I mean, if I bought and started jumping a Velocity now, then I wouldn't have to do it later. I'd save money.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
PhillyKev 0 #21 June 8, 2004 Nice...... Man, pisses me off. My problem is I have no where to put it. I live in an apartment. The only option I can think of is a public storage box but it's a cab ride from home and not open 24x7. No way I could keep a HD parked out front of my place. Could only get away with a jap beater. But, that just isn't what I want. I've been to this place http://www.americanclassicmotors.net/ (careful has sound), a fwe times the past couple months. they have some nice deals on late model harleys.
