rhys 0 #1 April 16, 2010 ... well in a cold environment anyway. www.reconinstruments.com These Goggles, are more for the use of winter sports and the have an internal device with small projecting display that projects a virtual 14 inch display in your feild of vision. I was going to post this in the wingsuit column as it has its best appliction for those flocking type, due to havng real time forward speed and verticle speed etc so one could see in thier filed of vision wherever thay are looking how efficient they are flying, while thay are actually doing it. Flocks could be set at a certain forward speed and verticle speed to allow closer formations with contact... but the application for these goggles is seemingly endless, so I posted it here. I guess it really comes down to the lag they have, they use GPS systems rather than a barometer for gathering information and are intended for high speed Skiing, snowboarding and snowmobileing etc. So should be more reilable than say a Suunto watch or similar which are already acceptable if you allow for thier lag. Even if they do have lag thay will have similar lag each time and the benfits will be the same. I'm moving back to the cold it looks like and will be going snowboarding skiing and speed riding anyway, so I'm definately getting some, i'll probably end up using it for jumping as well as I'll be using a hard helmet and its frigging, cold. At the price of an altitrack and with many, many more applications, it may be perfect for you too?"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
LouDiamond 1 #2 April 16, 2010 This is like the 5th or 6th thread on this product in several forums. The goggles in question are "vapor ware" at this point as the company doesn't even have an actual prototype yet. They are estimating by October of this year that they will actually have a tangible prototype, but I wouldn't hold my breath."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
PhreeZone 20 #3 April 16, 2010 They are yet to have a Proof of concept built and in the field from the word on the street, until this happens I wouldn't hold your breath that one will be shipped in "fall 2010"Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
rhys 0 #4 April 16, 2010 Ooh that sux. I want some now! I can't see why they wouldn't produce them, just hope it ends up being this year! "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
PhreeZone 20 #5 April 16, 2010 The thing is at this point its a lot of hype with huge claims and no product. Bits and pieces of the technology are already out there but putting it in a single package at an affordable price and having it actually work as expected is a lot of money and time. There are a ton of civilian and military groups that would love to have technology like this but even now no one has delivered a product that actually works that is worth buying. Also note they are not putting out anything specific on the product like its size, weight, what the external pack is going to look like or ho its connected to the goggles, etc. There are no details just hype on the product at this point. The Promo video claims things like trail maps, text message reading, song ID, etc... but there is not one mention about how all of that will work. Bluetooth? Wired? USB? Or are they just tossing out ideas and hoping at some point that they can add that feature into goggles version 7.5 in something like 5+ years when the goggles will look nothing like the animation they are showing today?Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
artard 0 #6 April 16, 2010 I'd bet they have 0 software developed for this thing at all and maybe some sort of crude hardware prototype and are attempting to use the hype to secure funding to build it for realhttp://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

The way I take it is you will connect a GPS device to the unit via a connection of some type and it uses the inforation to dispaly it with a basic LED/lcd display, the maths on the mirrors etc has already been done by the military. I believe we'll see these sooner than you suggest. hopefully within 12 months."When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Having spoken with the company and their being invited to show their product to the military, we were told by the company that they don't even have a non functioning prototype and don't expect to have one until October. Everything you read or see on their website or in the media is an idea or concept at this stage, ie: "vapor ware"."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
