Oi! Brits! Your magazine rocks!

Recommended Posts

Skydive, the Mag, is a very nice production. Very high quality feel and photography!

Seriously. The glossiness and quality of the photography is superb!

And thanks, Lesley! for publishing some of my photos of the 121 way sequential in Florida. You are an awesome plane captain. (and, quite frankly, a HOTTIE!) see you in Sweden for the Herc boogie.

A very nice magazine!

JP

Its money well spent, Lesley has turned that mag round and made some great improvements.

I think a lot of UK jumpers object to the amount (£105 per person per annum) that we have to pay for BPA membership as a whole and the mag component is included in that and is not optional. Personally, I like the mag and don’t mind paying for it (I think it works out at about £17 per year).

However, I know that there is a school of thought that we shouldn’t be forced to pay for the mag as part of our BPA membership.

The mag is a great read and Lesley has undoubtedly done an amazing job with it... does anyone else remember what it was like before she took it over?!

Vicki

Edited because of a stooopid typo!

Yes, I do, it was, erm, like the USPA mag... But you know what I mean.:)
Ola used to do a good job on it, but I think Lesley does it just a wee bit better.
Getting Colin on board has made it even better IMHO.

Bingo there, NacMac. Just about everybody here would forego the Parachutist in exchange for lower USPA dues.

I'll admit to mostly looking at the photography. There are more, better, bigger pictures in the Mag, on way better paper than Parachutist.

Yep, it's a nice magazine these days, and it has improved loads - although without taking any credit away from the editorial staff, I think a lot of that's down to the quality of the contributions from the community. There are some great articles and photos sent in and the fact that the presentation is so slick is just the icing on the cake. If Vicki's right then the mag (which comes out every two months) works out at less than £3 an issue - not bad for a, ahem, 'specialist publication'.

Now if they could just do something about the other 88 quid of the membership fee [:/]

"Any othe names you wanna drop Dave?"

Nah, its just that Colin and Lesley are fellow Scots, and we Scots tend to stick up for each other.B|

You'll notice too, that the shot of the base coming out of the lead plane is replete with DeBar falling over on his exit for the umpteenth time. All hi-larious.

Also, the picture of the Brits left out me and John Kallend. I guess they don't count us once we take dual citizenship. We should have been in just half the picture in that case.

I remember the magazine well before Lesley had it. It was called Sport Parachutist, it was always late, and it was invariably complete shite. The changes Lesley has brought to it are amazing.

Compared to the other European association magazines like Svensk Fallskarmsport, the USPA mag is basically about as interesting a trade show handout.

I have subscribed to the magazine for over a year now. I love it! Leslie is such a sweetie, shipping it to me every month.

That's so weird! Only last night I was showing my teamie my first ever edition of SP... We had a right giggle over the "brand new" kit, but we both commented how crap it was compared to the current Mag. I really like the Club News section we have now... Even people like me can get their piccie in the Mag :)
