kelel01 1 #1 June 16, 2004 Ok, so I have my USPA number, and it expires on 8/1/04. But about 2 weeks ago I sent my A license card (faxed) off to the USPA. Now I got the renewal form for my USPA membership in the mail. Do I need to pay the renewal fee and send it in, or will my recent license application cover it? I'm so confused. Thanks! CanuckInUSA 0 #2 June 16, 2004 The renewal and license fees are different. In otherwords you will have to pay for both. Sorry for the bad news ... but blame the USPA ... not me. When you get your new license in the mail, you can dispose of the old card you currently have. kelel01 1 #3 June 16, 2004 Bizatch! I knew I should have just waited until I got my B to send anything in, but that might be 100 more jumps at the rate I'm going.
CanuckInUSA 0 #4 June 16, 2004 Actually having your "A" is a good thing. You are now no longer a student, you are licensed and can travel to different DZs. Of course all you needed really was your proficiency card signed off. One thing though is that you really don't need to apply for the "B" and "C" licenses on your way to the "D" (once you get there) as you really only need to be a given license "qualified" to do most jumps (like night jumps, attend the WFFC and/or water training). So all is not lost. Plus Tom Buchanan (S&TA at the Ranch) has mentioned a very good reason to get your "A" number in another thread found here and basically his point was that the number protects you should you loose your "A" license proficiency card. So while it's unfortunate that you have to pay your renewal and license fees at the same time. It's a good thing to do. Congrats on the "A". kelel01 1 #5 June 16, 2004 Excellent points! I've had my A for 50-some-odd jumps now, but I just sent it off because I got sick of waiting for my B to have an actual license in my hand. So that's actually very helpful! Thanks so much! Kelly

When you get your new license in the mail, you can dispose of the old card you currently have. Well, sorta. The new cards do not list old numbers (except your USPA number). They only list your highest Lisense. So, for posterity and memories, I make sure I keep my old cards as they list numbers I don't have current record of, such as my A, which was A-39869. I honestly had to just look at my old card to remember that.... Damn, I guess that the memory really is the first thing to, um, er, yea, something. It's your life, live it! I think Luckily I have mine written in my log book or there's no way I'd remember the first two... A-11628 C-20528 D-14633 I do remember my USPA membership number tho... 94810. Big part of why I renew every year is so I don't lose that 5 digit membership number

I'm hoping to get a three digit number as well. But I have some work ahead of me (not sure when and where the B will be) and I may have to settle for a four digit number. By the way, any idea as to what numbers they're up to now? I guess we'll know when you get yours. So, skipping a license saves you all of what? 20 bucks? ...wait, that's a jump... ...yeah, screw the B license, I'd rather have an extra jump.
