AggieDave 6 #1 June 16, 2004 Anyone else really digging this band? I've heard Del McCoury before and actually have some stuff with him and Ricky Skaggs doing their thing, but I love the sound of his band. Anyone else with me? Does anyone even know who I'm talking about? (Please, I hope so).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
chaoskitty 0 #2 June 16, 2004 Yeah they're pretty good. I think most of the people reading this thread are gonna say something along the lines of 'huh'? They're not so big yet. Def. TX country.. the best kind!
AggieDave 6 #3 June 16, 2004 Not really TX country in my opinion, more Bluegrass, but some of the tracks definately have a TX country type feel to them...that's kinda due to some of the TX country having a bluegrass influence, though.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." CornishChris 5 #6 June 16, 2004 Yeah - they did a tour with Steve Earle a few years ago - I saw them play in Cheltenham, UK - and released an album called "The Mountain". I totally dig them - very cool band. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people
gmanpilot 0 #7 June 17, 2004 I've seen them with Steve Earle (one of the best songwriters to ever pick up a pencil) at the Opry in Nashville. They are great....unblemished Americana and pure bluegrass. I grew up in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains, and This Mountain really does remind me of home. usedtajump 1 #9 June 17, 2004 Dave, Del McCoury band played the last two years in a row at the Old Settlers Bluegrass Festival in Austin. They're VERY bluegrass in that none of the instruments are amplified, just played into PA mikes and the four part vocal harmony is sung into one vocal mike. Love their song " '52 Vincent Black Lightning". Had back stage passes and got to meet and hang with them for a while after their set. Real nice folks. The older I get the less I care who I piss off. 2fat2fly 0 #12 June 17, 2004 QuoteYeah - they did a tour with Steve Earle a few years ago - . I heard that the relationship went south. The McCoury quote that I heard was "There's no place in bluegrass for this kind of language" referring to Steve's "colorful" conversation. Can someone confirm or deny for me. I heard Steve say something at the end of one of his tracks like "There's no room for bluegrass in this cursing" but I don't remember the album or song and I'm in Canada this week and can't plug it in and find out.I am not the man. But the man knows my name...and he's worried
