Who loves thunderstorms?

Recommended Posts

I know I do.. Check out what's overtop of my house right now!

For you midwest people, I know this isn't much, but rather fun here. I can't see my back fence for the rain, except for the trees bending over.

On the picture I live at the X, and circles represent wind rotation of 60 mph.....

I wonder how much longer I will have power?

I counted 100 lightning strikes (each seemed to average 3.5 flashes) on a 40 minute drive last night to the GF's.

I get there and think it's all over. Then about 02:00 I wake up with that primal fight-or-flight reaction from the deafening thunder.

I used to fear thunder storms when I was a kid living in Illinois until my step dad told me if I got hit by lightning it wouldn't hurt 'cause I'd be dead before I knew what hit me. Now I love a good thunder storm. Of course, I now know it could hurt lots, but I still love thunder storms. :)

I DO I DO

We had a thunderstorm with mucho lightning last night here in Redmond WA.. I went outside and watched it approach from over the Cascades to the east. I even went up on the top level of the cement parking structure so I could get a better view.. just like back a few months ago when the Aurora Borealis was dancing across the sky. Last night the lightning was brilliant.. and you could watch the big bolts hit.. just a few miles away on the other side of the Sammamish Lake... and then dissipate into little shards as the energy was expended.. Hey.. in Seattle Lightning is RARE.

I love them as long as I'm not at work. The fire dept. gets busy when they hit. But here in Baltimore, we don't get very many big ones, they usually die coming over the mountains to the west. Bummer.
Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off.

OOO OOOO OOO!!! I do, I do!!!

I come from back east and used to love a summer light show as a kid. We used to make a game of counting the seconds between the flash of lightning and the thunder. Gosh, I miss those times
I live in the Bay Area (Nor Cal) now and we're lucky if we get one or two thunderstorms a year. I must say that the two most memorable storms have been here. The first one, I was out on the delta and watched the storm roll thru over the water and grassy hills on the other side of the river.
The second time, I was in the Berkeley hills when the storm hit so naturaly I went to the top of the hills and watched the lightning with San Francisco, Oakland/Berkeley and the bay as a back drop. Very intense storm and lots of very clear lightning strikes
