Shadowplay 0 #1 June 22, 2004 This is one of the saddest days in music memory. Lollapalooza has been cancelled this year due to poor ticket sales. It seems even the likes of Sonic Youth, Morrissey and the Pixies couldn't galvanize the public. IMHO, the only goes to show how ridiculous the entire music scene in this country has become. I'm 30 and I can remember when going to this event was THE concert of the year. I'm sure there will be some that disagree but it looks to me like that the corporate blood suckers have finally won. PhillyKev 0 #2 June 22, 2004 Quotethe corporate blood suckers have finally won Considering Lollapalooza had corporate sponsorship last year which was what enabled it to return after 5 years, I'd say they won a long time ago.

kai2k1 0 #4 June 22, 2004 Lollapalloza has sucked ever since the 2nd year it was out. I cant remember if that was the year that Alice in Chains headlined. Honestly, I won't go to concerts anymore since youre going to pay upwards of 100.00 a ticket and not even have a shot at sitting in the first 20 rows unless you want to pay 250.00 or more from a scalper. QuoteI'm sure there will be some that disagree but it looks to me like that the corporate blood suckers have finally won. I think you should take a peek at the lineup. IMHO thats why ticket sales are poor. There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan
BikerBabe 0 #5 June 22, 2004 So who would you all prefer? Wait, let me guess. 311 Hoobastank Incubus Limp Bizkit Godsmack Any other band that sounds the same as the ones above Am I close? Ugh. Lollapalooza was a testament to independent and truly alternative music. I would have paid incredible money to see Sonic Youth, The Pixies and Morrissey. But heaven forbid that the lineup actually include bands that sound different from everything else out there... But then again, no one hears these bands anymore because CORPORATE RADIO SUCKS!Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! I have been able to hear at least somewhat different music because I switched to Sirius/xm. They still play a lot of the more popular stuff but they have channels that are dedicated to music that is not mainstream. I have to pay for it but screw hearing the same song every 2 hours (as it is on most radio these days)~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. catfishhunter 2 #7 June 22, 2004 well if it was independant and alternative then whats up with $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for tickets??????????????? Your arguement doesn't wash. It was all about the $$$$$$$$$ as every other event. If you want people spend the kind of money they ask for such events you had better put people on stage the ones with the money want to see. If people willing to pay the ticket prices wanted to see that line up this would be a NON-Issue MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. ginandjuice 0 #8 June 22, 2004 That is so true. I can't turn on the radio anymore and be able to actually name who sings what song because they all sound the same. It's pathetic. The bands out now are pathetic. But i think the best news of the month is that Creed broke up GinnyThe words I have to say, May well be simple but they're true, Until you give your love, There's nothing more that we can do-David Bowie
Casurf1978 0 #9 June 22, 2004 Year 2 kicked ass: Red Hot Chili Peppers Ministry Ice Cube Soundgarden The Jesus And Mary Chain Pearl Jam Lush Temple Of The Dog. Chili Peppers are insane. I went to year 1, 2 and 1995. I do agree paying 100+ for tickets and getting a crapy seat is insane. When most events go corporate it screws things up big time. I remember the HOB here on Sunset pre corporate days. Man they had awesome bands play all the time. Now its a relive my younger days yuppie haven. BikerBabe 0 #10 June 22, 2004 yeah, well, the ticket prices started rising when the corporate sponsors took over. Try listening to Sirius's "left of center" stream, or www.kexp.org to see the kind of real music I'm talking about. And it seems to me that the more money people have, the more refined their musical tastes. Most of the listeners from my now deceased 97x WOXY fm were decidedly upper middle class. Here's an example. Has anyone on here HEARD the new song "Portland, Oregon" by Loretta Lynn and Jack White? probably not. My local "alternative" station was told not to play it. Not mainstream enough. Too Bad. Loretta Lynn's "Van Lear Rose" is by far the best album out this year so far. And it would be a stretch to call it country, or anything other than alternative rock. Sorry you'll never hear it on the radio. I'm so tempted to fly to Austin this September for the Austin City Limits festival. There I'll be able to see the Pixies, one of my favorite bands from the 90s...Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! Talk about opposite sides of the music spectrum. 311 is miles ahead of all those other bands you mentioned.

kai2k1 0 #13 June 22, 2004 In the day I was into Sonic Youth, The Pixies and Morrissey. I have seen all the above at different venues over the years. All im saying is that you can't repeat the same great shows every year. You can try and the public will respond just as they have. Yes, You are right everything sounds the same these days. That's why im content to listen to music before the whole rap-metal crap thats out there.
