bshl 0 #1 June 21, 2004 My daughter's school is trying to raise money to buy playground equipment. One of the fund raisers they're doing (and that I'm helping with) is an auction. We're touching base with a bunch of local businesses to see if they'd like to donate goods or services for us to auction off. The money all goes directly into the playground fund. Here's where you can help. If you have a business or some sort of good(s) that you'd like to donate to the auction, please PM me. If you'd like, I can have the school mail you a tax receipt so you can write it off on your income taxes. Holler at me for more details. Thanks in advance for the help! Blue skies and happy landings! lummy 4 #2 June 21, 2004 I helped my daughter's school earlier this year trying to get donations for their annual silent auction too.. I can offer some pointers if that'd help. First off, print out a letter stating what you are trying to do and how the business can help, i.e. donations of goods, gift certificates, cash, etc... Include the statement about how this donation is tax deductable and include your Tax ID#. Print it on the school's letterhead to make it more official and also include a phone # for them to call. Also, going door to door works wonders. Getting in front of people and doing your pitch helps a lot cause it's a lot easier to just say "no thank you" and hang up the phone. IF they aren't sure or refer you to a manager who isn't available, ask when's a good time to stop back in and DO IT. Be persistent yet courteous. Lastly, don't discount restaurants. Restaurant gift certificates are a big money maker for auctions. You can also bundle the GC's with other items to make "Theme nites" auction items. For example, we'd bundle 2 tickets to the movies and dinner for 2 at a local restaurant. Good luckI promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. bshl 0 #3 June 23, 2004 Thanks for the tips, Gary. We've had great success calling businesses and, if they want to help, setting an appointment to pick up their donation. The thing that mildly surprised me was that practically nobody wanted a tax receipt. I'm guessing there's some sort of rule where they can write off a certain amount without having to itemize. Thanks also for the help from GG. If anybody else has anything to donate it would be greatly appreciated. It doesn't have to be big; everything helps. Have a great day...
