LouDiamond 1 #1 June 24, 2004 I had the opportunity to meet and drag around one of the producers,James Abney for what I am told is a very popular online game called Americas Army. Looking to upgrade the game with even more realism , James accompanied my team and several others on missions in the mountains and live fire force on force CQB take downs. James followed me specifically on the CQB hit as I led my ODA + on a combined hit. I had to pull James away from the door as we breeched it with explosives but he didn't hesitate to follow me into the house and stood his ground even once the rounds started flying in our direction. In his quest to make the game as real as possible James and others have accompanied several teams to get first hand experience and knowledge to make the game better. The great part is that myself and others actually had input into how things should be portrayed in the game. Knock on wood here, but if all goes according to plan, the next upgrade of the game will have HALO missions where you as a player can go through a HALO jump and control the player in freefall, deployment and canopy control all the way to the ground in order to start the mission. It helps that James is also a skydiver with a few skydives under his belt so he has a first person perspective of what it's like in freefall. Other missions such as fast roping and SCUBA missions are planned as are weapons upgrades and so on. The biggy though is the possibility of having a game that accurately portrays freefall and lets you control the jumper in a realistic manner. To my knowledge there is no game out there that does that. If all goes well, my face and several faces from my team will also be used to upgrade the characters in the game. I have yet to play the game but I am told it has members in the millions and it's quite challenging. Anybody here played it? damn clickies"It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
FallingILweenie 0 #2 June 25, 2004 I played the training rounds before I ever had broadband and that left me with the impression that online the game has to rock...never played it with other people tho. i can just imagine dz.com forms a team that does nothing but 4 ways and big ways, then purposely dies so they can start the mission with the jump again. SkiD_PL8 0 #3 June 25, 2004 I downloaded it the day it was released. I played it for probably a month before I decided that I still liked good old counter strike better. I hear that it is improving constantly though, and alot of the bugs that were there in the begining are gone. There are allready "maps" in the game where you parachute in to start the level but if I remember right you are jumping a round and it just takes you straight down and you start. Greenie in training. Shark 0 #4 June 25, 2004 Cool deal! Is your grill on one of the characters? Not a PS2 game yet is it?
Cudlo 0 #5 June 25, 2004 The regular airborne op missions in the game are rounds. You don't have to go straight down, you have some control. It also depends on how long you stay in the bird and if you leave through the tailgate or one of the side doors. The thing i still find odd about that game is that during BRM you can shoot the DS and come back the next day and he says "Alright soldier, I KNOW we're gonna do better today!"_________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard
LouDiamond 1 #6 June 25, 2004 Quote played the training rounds before I ever had broadband and that left me with the impression that online the game has to rock Well I imagine it has to be pretty good when you have to pass all the training rounds offline before you can even play it online against others. That's the other thing that I thought was cool, you play against other people, not a machine."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

SkydivnQT 0 #8 June 28, 2004 I've played the game some. What I have played of it though, it ROCKS! Pretty realistic and you have lots of cool toys to play with. If both chutes fail......track for your rigger!
