Amazon 7 #2 June 28, 2004 Go look up the New Madrid Earthquake http://asms.k12.ar.us/armem/richards/ The MidWest has the potential for larger EQ than CA... Think of the entire Mississippi Valley as the place where the North Amrican continent tried to form a new rift and break apart...One of these days St Louis.. Memphis. and most of that entire area along the river for hundreds of miles..... will suffer a devastating rupture of the earth. The last one in 1811-12 rank church bells in Boston. PhillyKev 0 #3 June 28, 2004 There's a fault down the center of Manhattan that hasn't moved in hundreds of years. When that sucker goes, look out.
mailin 0 #4 June 28, 2004 Ya, theres a pretty disruptive fault in Boston too - it put out a 1.4 a few years ago that definitely startled some people. JenArianna Frances

I woke up, wondered why I was awake, assumed I just needed to pee (so I did), and went back to sleep.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. WFFC 1 #7 June 29, 2004 Quotehas this happened before? Yes it has...I'm thinking it was maybe 20 or so years ago - I just know I didn't have my drivers license. Do a little searching. There's a town on (under actually now) the Mississippi river that is now under the river. There was an earthquake on the new madrid fault that caused the mississippi flow north for a couple days and also redirected the river...----- ~~~Michael

Jen Yeah, Boston has been assessed with the highest earthquake risk in the US. Slightly higher than San Francisco. To compare, S.F.'s risk is a 37 on the Earthquake Disaster Risk Index. Boston has a 39. St. Louis also ranks up there in the upper 30's. Why Boston? Because your buildings are all old and will come down easily in a shaker. My wife is hotter than your wife. It turns out it wasn't the Madrid fault they announced on the news tonight - but the Sandwich Faults._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... lowtimer 0 #11 June 29, 2004 Did you feel it? I slept right through it. My friend's sister told me about it this morning, and I commented that it was just probably her gas shaking the house. Snowwhite 0 #13 June 30, 2004 In the 1880's the New Madrid fault moved and the Mississippi river changed it's course as a result. In the 1970's there was a very noticible quake, not sure of the numbers, but I watched my aquarium move and wondered if the water was gonna stay in it. (It did) The quake we had the other evening was a 4.5 so there was some serious moving, which I slept thru. One of my clients told me that she thought a large animal had gotten under her bed and was moving it. They say we are up for a pretty good one here. Sandwich is close to Chicago, Ottawa maybe, and the New Madrid fault is close to St. Louis. I am located halfway between the two.skydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com
