AggieDave 6 #1 June 30, 2004 You've got to be shitting me! These folks are the reason why the spam won't stop! WTF are they buying? Those damned penis/boobies pills? http://www.azcentral.com/offbeat/articles/0629Spam-ON.html Quotepam's dirty little secret - some buy its products advertisement Associated Press Jun. 29, 2004 08:53 AM We all profess to despise spam, but some Americans have a dirty little secret about junk e-mail: It works on them. According to a Yahoo! Mail global survey of about 37,000 Internet users in 11 countries, 20 percent of U.S. residents admit buying products from spam purveyors. About 78 percent said they delete spam. In Japan, by contrast, people deluged with junk e-mail are more active. Almost half of e-mail users said they send spammers angry replies to express their displeasure. And, in a nod to how ubiquitous and popular e-mail has become, people around the world agreed that a loss of their e-mail would be more devastating for them than doing without radio or television. newsstand 0 #5 June 30, 2004 This is why Spam exists. Only a few responses makes thousands of e-mails profitable. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
PhillyKev 0 #6 June 30, 2004 That's why spam works. Let's see, I send one million emails at a cost of, oh, nothing. And get one person to buy. PROFIT!
AggieDave 6 #7 June 30, 2004 I understand why and how, I still fucking HATE it. I wouldn't and couldn't trust a company with advertising so underhanded as to have purposely misspelled words so it will get through filters. Nevermind that spam costs buisinesses and people a lot of money each year. Bandwidth isn't free, nor is the equipment used on networks to have that bandwidth, etc.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." jimbarry 0 #8 June 30, 2004 Agreed, agreed. But y'know what I find the funniest? I mean, actually makes me stop and laugh? When US citizens and their representatives waste time (and my tax money) trying to find a way to legislate internet content (including email). I want to scream to them: guys! the first W in WWW stands for "world". It's a global network. Your efforts will lead to nothing. Zilch. As long as it exists it will be uncontrollable (provided you move your servers offshore).

Rebecca 0 #10 June 30, 2004 I feel like choking someone right now. It's bad enough that I get absurd amounts of spam on my DZ account, no matter how many filters I set up, I get nasty porn spam at work, and just now, I log on to my webmail and there's a University of Phoenix ad box just snapped right on next to my inbox. Yeah, it has the little "x" box in the corner, but does that make it go away? NO! I'm obviously still interested in applying even though I have two degrees. I just needed to see their compelling webpage and then I'd change my mind. I can't get it to go away. It won't reduce, close, move, anything. Every time I touch it, it pulls up the info request page. So I requested them to fuck off. Bastards. I'm in a bad mood. you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?
