wingnut 0 #1 June 30, 2004 okay so with my impending move to korea and then who knows i need to pick a "follow on" assignment... and i have listed most of my choices of where i can go with my job... i'm trying to decide where i want to go.... sout caroilina will put me closest to home (ohio) but there is some great skydiving close to phoenix and edwards.... las vegas wouldn't be bad either florida would put me the second closest to home but all the florida dz's are atleast about 6 hours away (moss point, ms is about 3 hours and emerald coast is about 1.5) so.... help me pick where i want to put down and in what order........... i'm not garunteed what i put down but they will go down it in order untill they pick one i have listed or pick one that i really don't want like the two in new mexico or the one in idaho....... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
quade 4 #2 June 30, 2004 I'd pick Edwards over Vegas, but that's just me. You could jump at Cal City on most weekends and the trips to Perris and Elsinore would be easier for events. Hell, you could even jump at Perris or Elsinore as your home DZ if you really wanted to.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
AggieDave 6 #3 June 30, 2004 Texas...Ft. Worth still has personel. That's real close to Eagle Flight Skydiving. Other then that I'd call Phonex or Edwards.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Gawain 0 #7 June 30, 2004 I picked Edwards AFB, as the desert is amazing, and there's a lot to do throughout the area (SoCal rocks!). So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! newsstand 0 #8 June 30, 2004 Unless Scumter has changed a lot in the last almost thirty years I would not go there. Been to Edwards once and it is an interesting place. I wouldn't want to live there forever but a few years would probably work. Oh yeah and Vegas is a great place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. "Truth is tough. skybytch 273 #9 June 30, 2004 Either Edwards (close to several great dz's) or Florida (home of many, many dz's)... But considering that the base is FL is hours from dz's.... Edwards.
AirCav 0 #10 June 30, 2004 Wright Patterson AFB an option? Near home and SGC.GW685,D3888,C5052,SCS843
wingnut 0 #11 June 30, 2004 okay i posted all my options well okay aggiedave dfw is an option but not very likely.. i don't know the right people to go there...same for wright pat. i've been to sumpter before for 4 days tdy and it wasn't so bad, not any worse that here in utah... edwards is nice as it is a test base and no damn chem suits to wear durring our "play war" time... phoenix would be cool as it is near many nice dz's but hot as hell and i hate the heat! i sweat way to much!!!!!!!!! it's gonabe hard to choose.... i do have 3 over seas bases i can go to also but i've already spent 2.5 years in germany and i don't wnt to be out of the country right now in my life for 3 years total..(2 years in another place on top of my year in korea) (germany italy and japan are the three countries).... oh and alaska.. but way up there north in the state......( very short jumping season and not sure where dz's are).... looks like edwards might be getting bumped up on the list.. not sure though... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
newsstand 0 #12 June 30, 2004 Shaw was a lovely base, it was the town that sucked. Why not go back to Germany? I spent 18 months in England, six months in the US and three years in Germany, would have stayed longer but the wife felt we needed to go home and since on that tour I was the dependent I didn't have a lot of choice. Beerlight 0 #13 June 30, 2004 Wingi, if anybody tells you Edwards, run man run.. you ever been there? I have..... anytime you can go thru the main gate and THEN still drive 25 miles to the main base, yo ass be in the sticks..... Go for the south/southeast, tons of DZ's. Bank your mid-tour leave and come back stateside, take a nice 30- day DZ walkabout..... enjoy Korea....... Buck
VectorBoy 0 #14 June 30, 2004 Wait, you are air force. What happened to all those northern teir bases that they forced people returning from overseas dream assignments to for a minimum of four years?
skydiver30960 0 #15 June 30, 2004 Hey Wingnut: I have a couple fans who live and work at Shaw, PM me if you want me to try to get you in touch with them. I spent a year in Sumter. I love the weather, but I really don't mind sweating, things are pretty humid down there. Virtually no winter to speak of, which was my favorite part... year-round jumping. I never got on base, so I can't speak for what Shaw is like (other than that the skyjocks crank em up pretty fukkin EARLY). Sumter wasn't a BAD town, but it sure wasn't anything to write home about either. I was only there a year, and as that year passed I found myself roadtripping into Columbia and Charleston more and more to get a little culture. Shaw, like every other military base, has seen its share of cutbacks. This has trickled down into the town. Holler if you have any specific questions... Hell, you could even jump at Perris or Elsinore as your home DZ if you really wanted to. I've only done the Lancaster to Perris drive once and it really wasn't all that bad, it doesn't take that much longer than it does for me to get there from the south bay area. WILDBILLAQR 0 #17 June 30, 2004 phoenix would be cool as it is near many nice dz's but hot as hell Dude! Phoenix at times is HOTTER THAN HELL! But, we have these cool little boxes called AC or EVAP! they work pretty well, sometimes. ELOYs 55 min from my house, DSC(Buckeye) is 45 min from me, Skydive Sedona is 1.5 hours. We have the last place D-backs, Cardnals, Cyotes, & Suns! whats more to love Oh well, so much for my job at the camber of commerce! Really , Skydiving almost 365 per year!
