Recommended Posts

so... Plaything and I were doing a little traveling.. and when we stopped at CrossKeys, they were demoing the skyhook.. a couple guys thought it'd be really cool so show everyone on the ground up close.. wanna guess how close? :S

A few hints..
This pic was taken from the ground with a Digital Rebel and a 300 zoom lens..
He landed safely under his reserve after a short canopy ride..
His reserve was packed slider down..

:S:o:P

Edited to add... this was done for demo purposes only.. the reserves were packed especially for this demo. Do not expect it is safe to deploy your reserve this low.

Stupid close? In violation of BSR's close?

If it was less than 2000 AGL he was pretty stupid, and in viloation of the BSRs (unless waivered).

Stupid activity is not in it's self bad. Sensationalizing it in a forum where other less experience individuals may interperate it as acceptible behaviour is.

Edit: That said the picture gives little evidence as a 300mm lens is pretty good at zooming a subject especial when mounted on a camera body that imparts a 1.6 multiplyer to the lens (480mm) and then the image is presented in an edited (possibly croped) electronic format.

It's essentially a slider down/off jump with some extra airspeed and a GIANT pilot chute. 200' is no problem! Maybe not a good example to be giving to people, though -- "Hey, I can chop at 200' if I have a Skyhook!".

Exactly! I have air-to-air photos of the skyhook working, and a photo where it DID NOT work, as it had been stitched into the rig incorrectly. It's a nifty device, but it is a backup.

There's simply no way that RWS approved that stunt.

How Fucking Stupid.

If I assume you were shooting at 300mm and the angle of the shot is about 10 degrees, that would put the dude at about 275 feet.

Edit: Oh i'm too late.

Are calculating the angle of the dangle again, Geno?
