people I least admire

Recommended Posts

Day 1 - person in our group requests 20 minutes of help on Excel from person in another group.
Day 2 - psuedo-manager of other group hears about it and sends an email to our/their group stating that, because of budget limitations, no one will spend time helping people of other groups.

Day 6 - today - server belonging to psuedo-manager will not come up. p-m was hired due to expert server skills and is responsible for them.

...p-m asks people in our group for help to resolve the problem of the type that they are an expert on.

... we are all chomping at the bit. We would love to offer our assistance, but we got this memo last Friday...

My fav announcement always comes when they hire a new HR manager at any company. The new HR manager thinks that they need to "make a contribution". After about 3 months, they discover that they are in charge of t-crossing and i-dotting, but not actual decision-making.

They enforce the rules, not make the rules... except one, casual day dress policy. That is when the announcement comes out, the "all new and improved casual day policy". :D

It specifically states that all clothing should be in the boundaries of "good taste", but studiously avoids actually defining "good taste". Kind of like, "you must obey the rules, but they are secret rules".
:D

You can only be lazy working for yourself for about a year or two. Then when you get hungry enough, you really start to rock! ;)

"You can fool some of the people, all of the time. You can fool all of the people, some of the time."

I find that to be sufficient. ;)

It seems that there are enough people out there with responsibility, but no ability. I just help them hang on their image of competence by doing their work. Since they do little work, I do little work.

You have to be devious to be lazy in a superb fashion. B|

I could have used your help yesterday. My back yard has 200 ft of chain link on one side. I was running the cable down the bottom and tying it off and thinking... I sure could use some help, who do I know that has done a lot of fencing?

You shouldn't mock management - they have soft skills you could never understand! Behold their might!!!!

For instance - say you were an inside sales guy that needed one of the larger cubes to do your meetings in, and the national/correspondance sales guys never met their clients should have the smaller cubes, right? Well, I was just told as we inside folk were all moved into the smaller cubes that it "would help with the flow of the floor and give you exposure (huh?)" and we will have a 2nd interview room in 7 or 8 weeks....so please be a team player because there is no room for frustation on this team. (We tend to have 8-12 overlapping interviews every day - but now we only have one room to do them in, and the guys that never have interviews could put a small lazy-boy in theirs).

Huh. No doubt why I failed as a Government administrator.

Actual observation of the situation should reveal the reality. Having sychophants reporting to you can dilute that. I always reassigned the sychophants and assigned a clerk as my personal assistant. Preferably a pissed off single mom version. Once they start to believe in you, they make the best assistants.

Never needed a secretary. The pissed off clerk worked great.

I was never a very good bureaucrat, though.

-Hire me.
