lewmonst 0 #1 June 30, 2004 taken out of my left hip on Monday. It hurt like hell to get it out with only local anesthesia. You can see it on the ruler is about 2.75 inches, also compare it to a quarter. The rod and lower screw are staying in. peace lewhttp://www.exitshot.com

lewmonst 0 #4 June 30, 2004 well, he said "no recovery time" and I am walking around, but it's sore. I hope to be jumping and working by the weekend, but we'll see. As of right now, wednesday, I wouldn't be able to jump... btw, if anyone ever breaks their femur or anything for that matter and gets hardware, make sure on the op report it says somewhere what size and type of screws were used. My doc had to cut me open to see what it was, then search the hospital for the right tool. The resident meanwhile tried pliers... only managed one turn with the pliers and then I felt them slip... ouch. peace lewhttp://www.exitshot.com

Actually, I'll probably just call you and see if I can borrow your's. Save a few bucks. That conversation might be taken the wrong way, though. "Hey, Lew. Can you give me a screw?" lewmonst 0 #7 June 30, 2004 Quote"Hey, Lew. It was not flush with the bone, stuck out about 3/8 of an inch judging by the xray. so I could feel it. And my muscles/ligaments would rub over it with every step. I could put your hand on my hip and move my leg and you'd feel tissue snap over the screw... when the doc cut me open, he said, "now I see why it was bothering you, you have a good size bursa here." How was your removal of the rod and knee screw? It sounds like I'll never have that taken out. Apparently the doc that put it in selected a rod that is too short, so it's so deep in the femur that bone has grown over it and it would be difficult to get out. The head orthopedic specialist in femur/pelvis (same doc) said if i want that out I should go back to the doc that put it in so he can deal with it. He also went into several other complications that could result in getting it out along with the recover time. He pretty much convinced me to leave it in as there is no doubt it's the strongest bone in my body now especially at the old fx site. Unless of course it starts irritating me... peace lewhttp://www.exitshot.com
 Shark 0 #12 July 1, 2004 QuoteMy doc had to cut me open to see what it was, then search the hospital for the right tool. And if that last tool he had wouldn't fit that was the next course of action, seriously. It was funny though, his toolset wasn't complete because someone had borrowed a few pieces. I joked that's just like any job, people borrow your tools and don't return them. Every tool he found to try though we had to wait like 15 minutes for it to be flashed/sterilized. If I had known I would have just brought my toolbox... next week when i go back and see him i'll get a good shot of the x-ray where the screw came from and the fracture site. peace lewhttp://www.exitshot.com
 Guest #15 July 1, 2004 OWWW!!!
