sillie1111 0 #27 June 25, 2004 What is it with these doctors, not treating shit. One of my good friends had a nasty landings this weekend , she fractured a vertebrate and her knee is a complete mess. All kinds of swelling she cant move it and even with morphine she feels the pain. She was told by the doctors that her knee isnt life threatening and they wont treat it. They told her to wait until she can go see another doctor. Im soo pissed it is friday this happened on saturday and they still haven't started doing anything about her knee.I feel so bad If you are in that much pain and you think you might have a torn your meniscus I say go to another doctor and get yourself checked out for a second opinion ASAP, you don't want to do any permanent damage. I hope everything works out for you and it is just a sprain ~Shelly~Shelly
GogglesnTeeth 6 #28 June 25, 2004 QuoteHave you done the whole R.I.C.E. thing? Rest, ice, compression, elevation? Are you babying it?. I'm doing all that as much as I can tollerate. Like a good chunk of us, i'm naturally high strung, so it's hard for me to sit on my ass and not do anything. I'll get it looked at next week if it is still sore. Swelling has gone down for the most part... now the pretty colors.Goggles and Teeth "You fall like a greased safe!!!"

ltdiver 3 #30 June 26, 2004 Didn't read -how- you injured your knee. Did I miss that info somewhere? Most meniscus injuries are caused with a person planting their foot on the ground and twisting. Most, but not all, meniscus injuries are symptomatic in that your knee locks and you have to do all kinds of weird contorting to get it to unlock again. Are you having this? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
d_squared431 0 #31 June 26, 2004 There is one test your ortho doc can do that will tell if you have a tear in your meniscus. So the answer is yes, but the problem is knowing how big and what part of the meniscus is torn, and if it requires surgery. That is what the MRI will tell.TPM Sister#130ONTIG#1 I love vodka.I love vodka cause it rhymes with Tuaca~LisaH You having a clean thought is like billyvance having a clean post.iluvtofly

Are you having this? ltdiver Just put a comment in two of my posts that I injured it. Didn't make a big post about it. I had just completed a 4pt - 12 way and was coming in for my usual straight in landing. I flared late, my canopy planned out about 6" from the ground, and (according to someone who was watching) my canopy just dropped me the last 6". I landed on my knees with the left one taking the brunt of the impact. Happened so quickly that even though I'd normally do a PLF, I didn't realize it was going on and viola! No PLF! I felt my knee cap move out of place to the inside of my knee and then back in place. No, my knee doesn't lock. Thankfully!!! There is a "tension" on the inside of the knee cap and a red-hot burning fork yelp kind of pain in the knee if the knee cap moves at all in that direction.Life is short! Break the rules! crwmike 0 #33 June 26, 2004 QuoteIs there a way (without an MRI) to tell if you tore your meniscus or just sprained your knee? Well, you could wait 6-8 weeks. If it doesn't get better, you've probably torn ...something. I damaged my knee last fall. Still hurts periodically (now!). I wear a knee brace when I jump and sometimes at work. Best of luck to you. ladyskydiver 0 #34 July 6, 2004 GRRR!!!! Went to the doc today as a follow-up from the original injury. And as promised/predicted, if I was still feeling pain...an MRI was going to be scheduled. But..I get to schedule it. So..since I'm still in pain, I get to call tomorrow and schedule not only an X-Ray but, also, an MRI. Goal is to get the MRI scheduled for Friday. Damn it!!! I'm sick of being injured!!! I WANT TO JUMP AND RUN AND PLAY AND.... GRRR!!! Can you tell that I totally suck at the whole injured thing? Hey, all...if you get a spare minute or two...would you please send wishes for just a really deep bruise? I don't want to do the surgery thing. Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! moodyskydiver 0 #35 July 6, 2004 Knee injuries suck! I messed mine up 2 years ago. Did the whole doctor thing..family MD,sports medicine knee specialist, orthopod, physical therapist, X-rays, MRI etc. They never did find out what was wrong..no tissue tears, nothing broken and just chalked it up to a deep bruise. But it STILL hurts 2 years after the initial injury.I was basically told to live with it. Good luck to you Cora.I hope you heal quickly. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
freeflir29 0 #36 July 6, 2004 Yeah.....go see the doc and get an MRI. After 10 years in the military and almost 2 in my current job my knees are fairly THRASHED. See my "Do I owe beer for this?" thread for the Doc's description.
