marcandalysse 0 #2 June 25, 2004 Oh Cora, that is tough.....sorry to hear about it. I had to get the MRI to see that kind of detail. And since it was only a small tear to the ligament with some damage to the meniscus, the only treatment was to take it easy and after a month or so, I did some physical therapy for a couple weeks to strengthen the area. Please see a doctor about it. The problem is that even if you are walking on it with minimal problems, you could make the situation worse if you twist your leg etc. Get the MRI to confirm what's happened. Hoping for the best for you, Marc
ladyskydiver 0 #3 June 25, 2004 Thanks! I went to the doctor this past Monday. I'm going again on July 5th. She said that if I'm still in pain then, I get to have an MRI. I'm hoping it's just a sprain, but... I'm, also, on anti-inflammatories and some light P.T., and I'm wearing a knee brace so I'm being a good girl...although, damn it!!! I wanted to jump this weekend and next and... Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably. And never regret anything that made you smile. funks 1 #6 June 25, 2004 I tore every single ligament in my knee last july 4th after a motorcycle accident..so bad the ACL was ripped completely off the bone along with all the other ligaments being completely destroyed...surgery, rehab, and all that fun stuff...needless to say i think the whole rehab process has caused additional problems, one being what i think is a torn meniscus in my other knee from favoring my bad one....i have been told the way to tell is whether or not you feel a pinching sensation on the inside of your knee and a sharp pain...that is generally the sign that it is torn.. Good luck!

AggieDave 6 #12 June 25, 2004 Quote Is there a way (without an MRI) to tell if you tore your meniscus or just sprained your knee? I tore that in my knee, the Ortho looked at the xray and was able to move my knee around a bit and came up with that prognosses, had an mri to be safe, but he was right. Lets just say it sucked, but I did acl damage too.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

AggieDave 6 #15 June 25, 2004 Go see the damn Dr. Knee injuries SUCK! That knee injury is why I can't go into the USMC now, which was a life long dream... ladyskydiver 0 #16 June 25, 2004 I'm actually not dicking around. I'm following doctor's orders. I saw her June 21st, and she wants to wait until July 5th to see if I'm still in pain to schedule the MRI. I was just curious to see if there is a way to tell without the MRI so I know what to expect. And, from people's responses, ...she'll be scheduling the MRI.Life is short! Break the rules! AggieDave 6 #17 June 25, 2004 Well get some dick and start arounding... Ok, well as long as you're getting it looked at. Take care of yourself, don't use it much and be careful, since its easy to hurt the other leg/knee/ankle when you're trying to protect your bum knee.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." ladyskydiver 0 #18 June 25, 2004 Who? ME? [pout] I'll continue behaving...as much as I don't want to. Well...I won't be jumping this weekend, but might have to stop by the gear store and shop. lawrocket 3 #19 June 25, 2004 I dunno if it's meniscus. I hope not. I hope it's just a sprain. I tore my ACL and did some meniscus damage. Dumbass that I was, I didn't do anything about it for a year and a half. Be careful, kiddo. And good on ya for being a compliant patient. My wife is hotter than your wife. GogglesnTeeth 6 #20 June 25, 2004 I'm one of those unemployed skydivers without insurance.... and naturally, I messed my knee up pretty bad last weekend. I just hope I didn't do anything really nasty to it. Still a bit swollen and tender a week later........... I may have to bit the bullet and get it looked at if it's still that way next week. I feel your pain!!!Goggles and Teeth "You fall like a greased safe!!!"

I feel your pain ... tripped over the $%$# cat on the stairs on Monday and felt something go "pop". Went to the doc and he thinks it's only cartilage damage (had surgery about 20 years ago for the same thing on the same knee) but he wants me to wait 2 weeks and see how it feels. If it's still really sore, MRI time. It's not too bad today (so far) and I've found as long as I stay off of it as much as possible, it doesn't bother me that much. Guess we'll see. Just do what the doc says and hopefully it'll heal itself! Good luck! 'Shell'Shell

ladyskydiver 0 #23 June 25, 2004 QuoteAnd good on ya for being a compliant patient. Thanks, but I'll fully admit that if it didn't hurt so much, I wouldn't be complaint. But, I've decided since it hurts so much I'll do what the doc says and will, also, make sure that when I'm ready to get back in the air, I can run....just in case.Life is short! Break the rules! cvfd1399 0 #25 June 25, 2004 Let us know. I tore mine 2 years ago playing golf!(thanks happy gilmore) Doc did not do surgery, and a month ago I hurt it again falling off a tube at 40 Mph. It aches bad, and I cannot straighten it out into the fully locked position. If I sleep on my belly it wakes me up in pain to bend it. I am worried, but hate doctors. Not from fear of pain, but from fear of blowing away my time on non-agressive docs, and docs that are set in a usual get "pt and take these pills" routine. From my experience I get the same thing at pt that I get walking around during the day.
