Muenkel 0 #1 July 6, 2004 There's a strong possibility I will never skydive again. I haven't really been able to talk about this till now. On 6/23 I saw my neurologist. He upped my recovery to atleast 2 years. He also told me that I probably will never recover 100%. It is critical that I am very careful to never hit my head again. He told me the results could be much worse. In fact, last Sunday night, I lost my balance. Fortunately I hit my head on carpet this time, but I did briefly lose consciousness. It also set me back a bit this past week. Tonight I was in the ER because my mother had a reaction to some medication. Thank God she is OK. While I was there, 2 nurses who treated me last August recognized me. They were pleased to see me doing as well as I was. I couldn't believe they remembered me almost a year after my accident because I am sure they deal with patients in much worse shape than I was. It blew my mind. They told me that they were very fearful that they were going to "lose" me that night. I truly never knew this. Anyway, thinking about never skydiving again has been quite a burden for me these past 10 days. I love this website and the people I've met, but I don't know if I belong here anymore. Anyway, I'm just trying to get some things off my chest. I'm not looking for sympathy. I know the results could have been much worse. I've heard from dz.commers who have asked where I have been or asked why I have been more quiet than usual. Well now you know why. Life can change in a split second as you all know. Make the most of life. It's so worth living. I'm not saying goodbye, because I don't think I am leaving. I'm just venting. Blue skies everyone and to those who have cared, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Chris

BASE813 0 #3 July 6, 2004 hey dude............. i guess that news sucks like nothing else............. you have some big choices to make................. there is nothing to say you cant still be involved in skydiving - you can study and work with parachutes and become the most anal knowldegable person you can - just because you dont jump does not mean you cant know alot about parachutes!! be strong dude............ I know my short time out makes me frustrated, and i have also thought about what I would do if I could never jump again - I would be an equipment and technical freak just so I still have a hand in the sport I love............................ be cool dude................... FallnAngel 0 #4 July 6, 2004 I know you're not looking for sympathy, but I'm really sorry things have turned out this way for you. Please remember, though, that you are always a skydiver! You have already done something that most people will never do or will ever think about doing. As far as belonging on the forums, of course you belong here! And at your DZ, if you choose to be there as well. Best of luck to you, Blue skies, Karen

I look forward to meeting you one day. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!
skymut 0 #6 July 6, 2004 Sorry to hear about your news, hang in there. You have to take care of yourself and you only get one noggin, so be careful. I have been 'on hold' for almost two years, but I hang around here because I like the community. Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours. cocheese 0 #9 July 6, 2004 Man that's tough. But don't leave. I've been riding the front seat of the otter for thrills at $15 a load. It's only been a few weeks and I feel like a whuffo at the dz. But deep down I'm 100% skydiver and always will be. Yes there are other things to do that are way cool. Scuba Does seem like a good idea. And Tandem may be possible once in a while ? I have a full face helmet if you're interested. Meanwhile stay safe and keep visiting dz.com. We are the same as you here. (on the ground). Keep up the hope and ya never know what it will bring. CrazyIvan 0 #15 July 6, 2004 Dude, it's indeed very unfortunate what you're going thru, but, it could be worse, you could be inside a box 6 feet under and bored as hell. We all have our "rainy cloud", believe me, of course, some are rainier than others but eventually you'll see blue skies, just keep the faith, keep in touch with your loved ones and friends AND THAT INCLUDES DZ.COM!!!!, as far as I'm concerned, you've made 8 jumps, so, that qualifies you as a skydiver, and even if you didn't, you can hang out here and post whore to your heart's content, we like that (and if you post boobies even better ). I guess you still have my cell's number, in case you want to talk a little bit. SENDING YOU VIBES DUDE!!!! EXTREME LOADS OF VIBES!!!! Your sense of humor is wonderful and appreciated, (well, at least by some of us). You have experienced the joy of skydiving, you know how it changes you, you have some great friendships with skydivers and skydiving will be in your soul. You better stick around and keep in touch! Medicine is advancing; don't give up on yourself. And honestly, if I had an injury that would prevent me from jumping, I'd become a rigger, or pilot, or something similar...I just love the atmosphere too much to give it up. I bet you do too. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
Snowbird 0 #20 July 6, 2004 That news sucks! I know you're not after sympathy, but (((HUGS))) anyway. But you'd better not leave here! And as said above, there are so very many things -skydiving related things and other stuff entirely - that you CAN do, once you recover. How about flying gliders? Those look wicked fun... jtval 0 #21 July 6, 2004 hey chris, thats tough news ,man. but as you already know you got one life; enjoy it. I wouldnt suggest skydiving b/c it MAY increase the chances of you hitting your head, but you dont have to be a skydiver to talk shit in these forums. you just have to have the love for the community. maybe if you hang out at a real DZ you may find that comaradrie (that may be too tempting though) I don't remember how you first got injured but ,while you have to be careful I hope you dont get too worried about protecting your melon. be careful of course but don't stop living b/c you fear a bump. i hope you heal 100% and soon. I'm surprised the dr.s are worried, youve always seemed thick-headed to me!My photos My Videos
