Lame fireworks...funny pics

Recommended Posts

So, me and my wife and whole heard of our friends got together this weekend and ended up shooting some fireworks.

One of the guys bought one of those 'morters' with the 'handgrenade' looking fireworks that you put in the tube, then light. Well, this was supposed to be 'new and improved' where essentially the 'shells' were doubled. The first two went off without a hitch, the other 16 were too heavy and didn't have enough propulsion to get far off the ground.

Fortunately, the guy doing the igniting (and in the pics) was on a 15 day leave of service in Iraq, so I guess he is used to these low-level explosions.

You probably had a problem with the tube.

We used 6 tubes and lit off close to 150 on July 4th. About half of them were doubles and triples. I do this every 4th and also on New Years eve.

Black powder makes stuff very greasy feeling. Some of the tubes get clogged, we had one tube explode.

We had about 4 low-bursts. The tubes need to be turned over and emptied periodicially.

yeah I've used those cardboard tubes for dozens of motars in the past, you just have to dump them out every so often and make sure the lip doesn't get bent or frayed too badly.

I did have one tube burst / low explosion a couple years ago, but it's really not that big a deal, you have to be ready for that kinda thing when you're playing with fire.

4th of July last year I was setting off mortors and on the sixth one, the bottom blew off of the tube. I was standing only about 6 feet away. It took me a moment to figure out what happened, it was so dark. Something about the launch just didn't look or sound right. Then I see the mortor with it's quickly diminishing fuse sitting infront of me. I had a couple friends behind me, I looked over my shoulder and as loud as I possibly could I yelled "RUUUUNNNNNNN!!!!!!", took off running down the muddy field of harvested corn stalks and lost a shoe. We were being chased by shards of white light and thick smoke. Luckily none of us were harmed in any way. That was by far my most favorite 4th of july ever B|

yea, when I was much younger (and dumber?) me and the friends used to have firework wars. probably not the smartest thing, since literally a shirt or two caught fire - and something worse could've happened I suppose. But back then we were invincible.

hmmm... seems we still do that. we had a guy who was the "target" last year. shot bottle rockets at him all damn night. Dumbass said we couldnt hit him. so we did. over, and over and over. Goodtimes!

Oh yes! We had a crazy war one year. Started just tossing bottle rockets and little junk. Then came the M-60s... I grabbed my tennis racket. Light the M-60, crank it with a forehand over the house and onto the people who ran for cover in the back lot. SERVICE!

Eventually it errupted into people firing roman candles at each other and tossing buzz bombs and pinwheels back and forth. Then.... someone decided to drop one of those mortars on the ground right in the middle of it all. Took a while before we noticed it. Everyone was still pretty close in when it went off. No one left with an intact shirt. Good times!!!

Fireworks are perfectly safe... except for sparklers

At our DZ we have great fun with fireworks. We've shot them at people under canopy, and boy that pissed him off.
We also use them to get rid of gophers, you wedge a morter shell down a gopher hole, light it and run. We've actually found scattered gopher parts laying around.

but a few weeks ago, our pilot thought it was funny (after a beer or two) to toss a lit bottle rocket into the packing area... it lands in between 3 open rigs, but somehow luckily shoots between them and under a couch.
