dropdeded 0 #1 July 11, 2004 I have been doing a lot of Bakersfield to San Francisco runs for work lately and EVERY time, the winds are freekin HOWLING through the Altamont pass area. I mentioned that there was a dz in Byron and my partner asked how its possible to jump in so much wind. I told him, well, you cant. Do you guys just shut them big ol fans ya got on the hills off on the weekends??? **EDIT** This is in NO WAY meant in a negative way towards Byron dropdeded------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
Deuce 1 #2 July 11, 2004 Winds were zero to five all day yesterday. We routinely jump in winds to 20-25. It's only hard on the students who are trying to get their levels done, and this season it's been particularly mild. It's great for tandems. Funny thing, is the biggest reason to downsize for most Byron jumpers is to have more ability to jump in higher winds. Stop by on one of those runs and jump with us! FIREFLYR 0 #3 July 11, 2004 Last week 37mph winds "christened" my new Birdman suit Good times. ~J"One flew East, and one flew West..............one flew over the cuckoo's nest" "There's absolutely no excuse for the way I'm about to act"
lummy 4 #4 July 11, 2004 well.. to be honest, we have no problem jumping, it's just the landings that can be tricky Honestly tho, the winds tend to either pick up in the afternoon and the beer light comes on around 5 or 6, or they'll drop off around midday. But like Deuce said, you get used to it. I still fly a boat (180) and 22 or so is about my limit. Some of the more experienced jumpers will go up to about 28 or so.I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. VectorBoy 0 #5 July 11, 2004 QuoteLast week 37mph winds "christened" my new Birdman suit Good times. ~J Careful now, you might end up tracking from jump run screaming over the ground thinking you are Jari Jr then turn the 180 back and nuttin, standing still in the air. This happened to a lot of people at WFFC 03. Smaller heading changes and keep the DZ near. But if you learned to jump in big winds you know what to expect.
