upndownshop 0 #1 July 10, 2004 I was designing the cover for the DVD we have just finished with vintage skydiving footage from the 60's and came across this photo. Jerry Schrimsher took this photo in 1968. Can't tell you if this was planned, but what a plan if it was. The Nikon (carried in his hands in freefall) he used back then I believe had a 50mm lens, how close were they? At least with a round canopy you don't have to worry about it driving forward. Don't try this at home! Thought you might appreciate it. I decided to use this on the cover. www.skyfestboogie.com

damion75 0 #3 July 10, 2004 QuoteWhoa... What she said! Holy cr*p!! I hope that the camera guy had one of those big straps around his neck in case he dropped it! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus. upndownshop 0 #4 July 11, 2004 He had a "L" bracket mounted to the bottom of the camera. That was it, nothing else. Just a firm grip. We still have the camera and it works fine. Amazing stuff.

skymut 0 #6 July 11, 2004 Whoa, that's a cool shot. I had the privilege to have Jerry coach me years ago. He was a great guy, very friendly. I remember getting the opportunity to sit and listen to some of his stories while waiting for loads at SDD. I always think of him often and fondly. Thank You for the kind words about Jerry. I moved out of state when I was 19 and didn't return to Texas permanently till after his death, so I always enjoy hearing about him. Thanks again Will you make it SkyFest? www.skyfestboogie.com Them boys were crazy back then, yet they didn't even know it.
skymut 0 #8 July 12, 2004 If you are Jerry's son, J , yea I met you years ago. Actually, it would have been the last time I jumped with Jerry. It was the end of summer/beginning of fall in 99, about a year before he passed away. I had spent the day being coached by Jerry and at the end of the day I met you. If memory serves me right, we did a simple 3 way, and then for the last jump of the day, we attempted a h. guerilla. After that, I moved to a different part of the state and started jumping elsewhere. I made skyfest the first year it was held and haven't made one since. Wish I could come this year (and every other year for that matter), but I've been sidelined for the past 18 months with medical problems. After I got the med issues worked out, I am currently trying to clear the bills that the insurance didn't want to cover. I'm almost there...actually trying to get my 'ducks in a row' to get in the air pretty soon. Blue skies. Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours. upndownshop 0 #9 July 12, 2004 I remember that! You have actually helped me out. I have a few jumps in my log book just prior to his passing and they are blank. I know that they were with him just couldn't remember what. Now I do. Awesome. I remember you as well, I think we sat out front on the deck, listening. I was living in OKC at the time and could only make it down occasionally. I only had about 150 jumps. Sorry to hear about your medical situation, hope it works out for you soon. Thanks Again and maybe we will cross paths again soon. Blue Skies
skymut 0 #10 July 12, 2004 Glad I could inadvertantly help out. This DVD you are working on, is it going to be something available for sale? I'm really interested, thanks in part to your dad, in the early years of skydiving. Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours. upndownshop 0 #11 July 12, 2004 Yes it will be for sale. I found some reel to reel canisters in the attic and had them processed. Turns out it contained skydiving footage from the 60's! Really cool stuff. Jerry helped with a scene on one of Raquel Welch's movie when she was 22 so Jerry presented her with a bikini. There is an interview from Channel 8 news that has some awesome descriptions on what it is to jump. I have never heard anyone put it so well. Thats not a bias statement either. There is a ton of old photos, great music, scenes from the memorial boogie (the event that started SkyFest) and his ash dive. The First Texas State Record (7 way) in August we will be going for 150 way. It has taken almost 37 years to get that far. Amazing! Bonus footage as well. Runtime is 1Hr. & 13Min. Ok I can't tell any more, but it really does keep you watching. It will be ready by this weekend at SkyFest, but you can PM and we can work on getting you a copy. I think they will run $25.00 at SkyFest. Thank again
