2fat2fly 0 #1 July 12, 2004 Subtitle..I'm a dumbass Saturday was beautiful and since i was tagging rides up on tadem loads (182) I jumped in shorts and my protek. Jump 1, I lost the face from my altimeter, so I got out my chest mount that I have only used a time or two and finished out the day. Somebody talked me into getting up early Sunday morning for a sunrise load and since it was cooler, I broke out the jumpsuit and my full face (Havok) helmet. I dozed most of the way to altitude and when the door opened I was 3rd out. I leaned out to check the spot, popped down my shield and dove out. Did you know that you can't see a chest mount altimeter while wearing a havok? It wasn't that big of a deal with only four people in the air, good seperation, and everyone pulling high to enjoy the view. I was also wearing my protrak but have never considered depending on it as an altimeter. It did confirm that I pulled pretty close to plan ( a smidge high) so not a sad story. I didn't change but one thing on any jump, but I failed to look at all of the possibilities of what I was changing. In this case, not a big deal, but if it were other gear choices I could hurt myself by having my head up my ass. Has anyone else got away with something that they instantly knew was stupid?I am not the man. But the man knows my name...and he's worried
AggieDave 6 #2 July 12, 2004 QuoteHas anyone else got away with something that they instantly knew was stupid? Every jumper has at some point. Seeing how I've been pretty hard headed most of my skydiving life, I've got a list...right now someone who knows me in person is probably thinking about one of those "events" and laughing their ass off.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." skymut 0 #4 July 12, 2004 About the worse thing I've done is to start climbing out to exit and realize that I didn't pull my goggles down over my eyes. It was a solo sitfly that I was planning, so right after I launched I just reached up and pulled them down. I know it was a small thing, and I didn't kick myself in the butt too hard, but still, it's usually some SMALL something that can get you in serious trouble. It just sort of alarmed me that I could forget something like that. DUH!!! Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours. Lindsey 0 #5 July 12, 2004 In my limited experience, a chest mount is really more for your RW buddies than for you.... But hell, what do I know?
