skybytch 273 #5 June 27, 2004 Quote(Now, quit yelling at us, Lisa) Sorry. Senseless, life changing injuries caused by alcohol mixed with driving piss me off. I tend to yell when I'm pissed off. If you're gonna drink, stay on the damn dropzone. Don't get behind the wheel.

skybytch 273 #9 June 27, 2004 Yup, there is a story behind this post, but it's not my story to tell. This post is merely another attempt to remind all of us that driving when intoxicated can have tragic results. Even if you're not on the road. Even if you're not the one driving. ACMESkydiver 0 #13 June 27, 2004 I agree...I spent the night in the back of my truck on Friday at the encouragement of all... Now I was sober, but I had been drinking beers hours prior, and was told not to risk it...I agreed...(then the punks pied me, but that's another story!! ) I'm very glad I didn't drive back. I knew I was below the legal limit and not impaired, but I was dang tired on top of it, and that would have been the last thing I wanted...a DUI or hurt someone or fall asleep at the wheel again. (<--Fell asleep at the wheel once before years ago and I was in a car wreck. Stupid. That ended up being about a $45,000 wake up call. The dumbest part is I was working double shifts to try to keep my $9.25/hour job and couldn't hang driving home after 3 hours of sleep in 40 hours. Very stupid.)~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
yardhippie 0 #14 June 27, 2004 This is a subject I get very serious about. Not only, because should I get pulled over after a "few" would I be held to stricter standards than others, I would lose the one thing I need right now. The ablity to make money. I have a CDL. But... my great Aunt and Uncle were killed by a drunk driver who fell asleep at the wheel and crossed the median and struck them head on. The fucker lived. My cousin died when he couldnt make a turn and struck a tree head on crushing him in the cab of his truck. Dont play with this folks. Id sooner see you in jail then put you in the ground. BoostedXT 0 #18 June 28, 2004 My parents were almost killed by a drunk driver. T-boned at an intersection. The drunk driver was under age, and the son of the police chief. Nothing was ever said or done.....It went down like it never even happened. My wishes go out to all involved. LuvToFly 0 #19 June 28, 2004 QuoteDon't Drink And Drive Dammit!!! Not even in a Hummer!!!! Just as concerned about folks that get plastered staying up late, and then "drive" a canopy after free fall. It's a wonder that more folks are not killed in this sport.. and wonder how many of the "misjudgements" by experienced jumpers that have cost them their lives (and/or the lives of others in some cases) were either caused or helped along being hung-over. Guess we will never know - 3:00 AM drinking and jumping loads at 9:00 AM is NOT enough time - Seen SO many poor examples of this practice on DZ's that you'd think folks believed that skydiving is NOT as dangerous as driving - and that's whacked. It's ludicrious to think we might notice the dangerous effects of alchohol practices in others while folks are jumping still impaired from the night before at the DZ's. I stayed way too long at the DZ and had been drinking. Fortunately Rick pointed out the RV and said I could crash there. It was actually very comfortable. Then he woke me up at 9AM - I swear that when he opened the door and hollered "WAKIE-WAKIE!!!" that I turned to dust... Better that then try to make it back to Everett at 2AM. mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
Deuce 1 #21 June 28, 2004 Tell the freaking story, if you know it! I don't know it all, but this is the gist of what I do know. One of the Davis organizers rolled his Hummer2. He, his beautiful girlfriend and her beautiful friend were critically injured. Alcohol was involved. Booze is fun. Until it bites you. The driver in this case may never walk again Booze is not quite that much fun. The Jaws of Life are not always pulled into action for "other people". Be as careful as you can. Go as far into the redline without hurting yourself or others. Sometimes our friends show us where the red line is. Respect their sacrifice. Peace, love, out.
