jdfreefly 1 #1 July 14, 2004 Tomorrow I go under the knife to repair my tallus and my heel bone which I fractured while landing a velocity 111 withour flaring it at all. There is a brief post about it in the incidents, something about lost toggle and one lucky skydiver. The tallus injury has me a little worried. Apparently, the tallus has a very limited blood suply. Whenever you tramatize it, as I have, you disrupt the blood suply and the bone may die. If the bone dies, you will probably end up with your foot ankle and shin bone all fused into one. That would really suck. I am hoping it doesn't happen to me. Blue skies! Methane Freefly - got stink?

lifewithoutanet 0 #4 July 14, 2004 I have a friend in a similar situation, though he took a 40' digger off his roof when the non-locking carabiner that was clipped into his ascender twisted open. He's building his house and was doing some roofing, not just screwing around. In any case, see lots of docs (second, third opinions) and expect a lengthy recovery. In my friends case, that's led to a lot of optimism that things will work out, but also an awful lot of waiting. I guess the good thing there is that you shouldn't expect a snap judgement that will have you all fused together before your body has taken the time to heal itself. Good luck and keep a positive attitude. Cheers, -C.
