'fess up guys

Recommended Posts

My wife teaches Biology and A & P courses for the local junior college, usually night courses. I get the call that she's on her way home, so I start getting some dinner ready, nothing fancy, but good.

It got me to thinking about some slacks that I ironed yesterday, washing some dishes earlier tonight, and the load of laundry that I just finished.

How many of you other guys out there got da mad dometic skillz? Come on, you know you got 'em. Let's hear it.

I've been unemployed since January, and in April the gf and I quit the long-distance thing when I moved in with her. We're not able to get by just on her income, but it's not a bad gig for until my savings run out.

What she sees: a picked-up house, the laundry is done, the dinner is on the table (or on the way there), lawn's mowed, garbage is out, her lunch is packed, groceries are bought, and the cats are fed.

What I see: no rent, no bills, sleeping in late, daytime TV, time to play hockey and stuff, and HOURS and HOURS of PW time on dropzone.com

It's been six months since I vacuumed the apartment.
I have really old stale milk in the frig.
The garbage usually piles up before I take it out.
And I have a bunch of crap(empty boxes, books, clothing) scattered about the floor in my bedroom.

But I can cook a little. I'm thawing out a Mahi steak and some shoepeg white corn for a late dinner right now and often make homemade bread and icecream.

I may be a slob, but I eat well.

Two people working, two people sharing the housework ...how else would it work? Living alone or sharing a home, ya got to have some skills.

Junior here has obviously never been around a pregnant woman when the 'nesting' instinct sets in, eh Lawrocket?? :P:ph34r:

Eh-hem....no, not hard to get a pregnant woman to clean...hard to get her to STOP cleaning...B|:S:P

Edited to add: I re-read your post Law...well, maybe not! :o To be honest, it set in with me...um...like a few hours before I went into labor. (No kidding. I suddenly wanted to paint the baby's room and assemble furniture and label all of baby's dresser drawers...:S)

I got mad skillz... on the domestic side... Had to learn to use an iron when i joined the military... worked at a small mom and pop resturant and subsiquently learned how to fix just about any kind of food...

My mom made all of my siblings and I to do our own laundry after graduating Highschool (I commuted to school for a few years...)

I also hold my own in the yard work ( I worked as a landscaper a couple of summers in college...) and like building/fixing things (I'm an engineer... so sue me...)

Now if only I had someone to share my skillz with...

or maybe I'll just keep them to myself...

Chad probably won't brag about himself, so I'll do it for him. I leave the house at 630am, usually not home til 9pm. I come home to dinner cooked and waiting for me, laundry done, dishes done, dogs taken out, garbage taken out, lawn mowed, and often some form of home improvement done. Since I started this insane 1.5hr commute, he does almost everything and does it very well. Though it makes me feel horribly guilty for not pulling my weight with the housework, I consider him my angel, so repay him with sex ;)

Wow - very similar to the situation I've got set up:).
Execpt he only cooks & does the floors, but those are the 2 worst home duties imho. I do laundry & dishes. The rest is split bi-annually.
I'm not kidding you, my 30 yr old b/f took his laundry to his moms home 1x/week until I started doing it - the man has done 2 loads of laundry in his life!! However, he can cook up some kick ass food!!

I'm not trying to blast your b/f, but come one, doing laundry isn't rocket science. Takes but a small bit of effort, and even less thought process.

But hey, if the way you guys split it is how you like, then rock on. :)
I think ironing anything is the worst household chore. >:( That's why most of my colthes are t-shirts and blu jeans (well, shorts mostly). I like things that stay wrinkle free by throwing them on a hanger shortly after coming out of the drier.

The occasional slacks/dress shirt for wedding, funerals and such make a short trip to the dry cleaners. They then patiently wait on a hanger until the next event.

I totally agree w/ you on the non-rocket science. He just didn't like to bother & would rather go buy some cheap t-shirts if he ran out.
For me, it's fine, I hate laundry too, but his is only jeans, shorts & t-shirts, everything is washable execpt his 1 suit & that oges to the dry cleaners.

Other than the time it takes (1 night/week), laundry is much better than cooking (every night) imo!!

Our relationship is all about splitting the sucky stuff evenly (both good :) & bad :| suckysucky).

I can manage to do my own laundry very well. I just don't get why people seperate their whites from their colors? I've been combining all my laundry and the whites remain white and same with the colors.
