Zenister 0 #26 July 15, 2004 Saints of all categories I thought applied to skydivers.. Falling = St. Venantius Fliers = Our Lady of Loreto Flying = Joseph of Cupertino, Elijah Flying, all involved in = Our Lady of Loreto for good weather = Agricola of Avignon, Clare of Assisi, Medard of Noyon Freedom = Infant Jesus of Prague Friendships = John the Apostle against dizziness or vertigo = St. Ulric against sudden death = Aldegundis, Andrew Avellino, Barbara, Christopher Aviators, aviation = Our Lady of Loreto, Therese of Lisieux, Joseph of Cupertino Champions; invincible people; to be invincible = St. Drausinus Death, happy = Joseph of Cupertino Death, sudden = Andrew Avellino Jumping = St. Venantius Leaping = St. Venantius Misfortune = Agricola of Avignon Obsession = Raphael the Archangel Paratroopers = Michael the Archangel Sexual temptation = Angela of Foligno, Catherine of Siena, Margaret of Cortona, Mary of Edessa, Mary of Egypt, Mary Magdalene, Mary Magdalen of Pazzi, Pelagia of Antioch given this list I would nominate St. Venantius there are 5 St. Venantius and from the descriptions I cannot tell which refers to which trait unfortuantly as our most likely Saint, however you know the Catholic chuch it would take 200 years and 2000 page to come up with an 'official' answer "tried searching the internet and came up dry"??? I guess I'm a heathen with to much interest in religion (and too much time on his hands) but you think they might have checked www.catholic.org first.... yeesh.. it took me 2 min to search through my religious links folder and maybe 10 to read the lists and cut and paste all that I thought applied... no Patron Saint of Beer I'm shocked.. do you think she took your request very seriously?? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. chuteless 1 #27 July 15, 2004 Why would anyone with a modicum of spiritual understanding call upon a man made Saint to give him help, when if you are a true believer in Jesus Christ, you are able to go "directly" to the Son of God? This whole saint thing, is a product of the Catholic Church to bypass Christ in favor of a plaster statue. Jesus Christ is the Mediator BETWEEN God and man, so why would anyone deal with a plaster model when God's Son is waiting for your call. I guess the Catholic Church ( the FalseProphet in Revelation) needs the money....selling these ridiculous statues (graven images) to their followers... Zenister 0 #28 July 15, 2004 at the risk of getting this thread moved to the forum i cannot access at the moment.. why would anyone with a modicum of spiritual understanding need a man made mediator at all between themselves and God? it is totally unnecessary in the first place..God doesn’t create dogma, Man does. Dogma is all that 'separates' you from divinity.... but that is not what we are discussing here. Saints are one of the conventions of the Catholic faith. Catholics 'need' Saints in the same manner that Christians 'need' the carpenter you hold so dear....it is part of their religion's established conventions, and all organized religions need money. It is the fundamental flaw in 'religion' in the first. Since we are discussing particular details of the Catholic religion, or rather just playing with the idea of a "St. Skydiver" this sub discussion is off topic. If you wish to discuss the relative merits of comparative religions, and the distance each holds it’s followers from God, start a thread in the Speaker's Corner and I will happily join you next week... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. Bill Cole Wrong forum to be attacking Catholicism. Or I guess maybe you forgot where you were, Mr. Cole. And the Catholic church doesn't sell statues and medallions, Mr. Cole. For-profit businesses do. For-profit businesses, just like any other book store, any other grocery store, or any other dropzone. -Oh wait, you already knew that I'm sure. You're the expert aren't you? Completely on a side note, I'm so glad that I don't jump with judgemental, asshole skydivers. That would suck to feel persecuted every time I went to the DZ. -Hmmm, kinda like the reason I don't go wandering through Speaker's Corner a whole bunch. I wonder how judgemental, asshole skydivers find anyone to jump with or have any friends? Perhaps because they're only openly a judgemental asshole in a more annonymous forum...maybe online? I wonder. Hmm.~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
