...it would cross-apply I believe, as that is the closest application to skydiving. I have tried FOR A YEAR to find a medallion of St. Michael that says 'Paratrooper', or 'Skydiver' either one and have been unsuccessful...

The Ranger Chapel on Ft. Lewis where my husband and I were married has a stained glass window of a Paratrooper...it's soooo odd when you first walk into the church and see an Army guy parachuting in the window, but then you remember where you are...

ps - the mother of an old friend of mine used to make pewter medallions of St Christopher for all us. I'll ask if she still does and is so whether she can make one (a few?) for the archangel. princess.

For fun jumpers it might be St. Vincent? Isn't he the one for lost items?

I think the whole town had at least one or two of them in their freezer, not counting the one they ate first.

I'd be surprised if she even let me pay for shipping. Woman was (and still is, but I miss her) a saint in her own right.

QuoteI don't know that Michael would apply to us skydivers. The patron saint of infanty doesn't apply to travellers, walkers, and wanderers, right? I'd say the element of combat is a requisite. The patron saint of pilots and aviators seems closer to what we do, don't you think?
Sent a message to the Archdiocese of Seattle to ask their opinion on which saint would be most appropriate. I'll let ya know what they say.

QuoteYoudo know Seattle is home to Starbuck and Microsoft, and eco freaks of the world, right? Why would you expect anything coming from there to make any sense whatsoever?
Starbucks is the smartest business model/product line since crack cocaine...and we're all similarly addicted...

You know what really fVcking sucks? I could make that for you now.
GD MF Barnes & Noble.

Lord in Heaven (not talking to the princess

ps - you don't have to say sugar free when you order a latte. There's no sugar in one unless you ask for it or put it in yourself.

Huh? RR, did you put bejeezus in this boy? And if so, apparently he's lost it, so please put it back.

any place that charges $1.25 for a medium fountain drink when you can get an equal amount of soda for fifty cents from a vending machine has some serious issues. And they DON'T GIVE REFILLS!!

She's also the secondary patroness of France, after St Joan of Arc.
Born Marie-Françoise-Thérèse Martin, she is called Saint Thérèse de Lisieux, or more properly Sainte Thérèse de l'Enfant-Jésus ("Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus")
You can blame this all on damion75
(he mentioned my woman's twins, then I noticed his encyclopedia thread, where I found wikipedia, which tells us that the 12th of July, 1862 Congress approved the creation of the Medal of Honor. I then found the Presidential medal of Freedom, the civilian counterpart to the MOH, which led me to Charlton Heston, who was award the PMF. Heston was born on October 4. Seeing this, I decided to search my own birthday, thefirst of October 1. 01 OCT is the feast day for Sainte Thérèse de l'Enfant-Jésus.)![]()
and he said he'd be full of useless knowledge by morning.
Ok, ok...back to the original post and direction of this thread...here is the response I got from Seattle:
Quote
Greetings, Jennifer,
Thank you for your interesting inquiry. I have checked several of our reference books on saints and have only come up with the information you already have. I tried looking for parachutists (sp?) generically, but found nothing. I also tried searching the internet and came up dry. I wish I could provide you with a saint more specific to what you do, but St. Michael is a wonderful saint with interesting iconography worthy of your exciting pursuit. The two saints represent different aspects of what you do. Some of your skydiver friends might relate more readily to one and some to the other, which is the great thing about saints--different people relate to different saints based on their own experience and that of the saint with which they can identify. If you would like more information to read on either, or both saints, just let me know.
All the best to you,
Sarah Swaner

...so, we're back to square 1...

Edited to add: Here was my question to the Archdiocese (and sorry, I assumed that people that were interested in the Saints were Catholic. If you're non-denom, apologies...:
QuoteA number of Catholic skydivers are a bit confused and wondered if you could help us... We are trying to figure out which would be the Patron Saint of skydiving...the closest we could come up with would be St. Michael, as he is listed as Patron Saint of paratroopers...however recreational skydivers and skydiving teams are not in 'combat', so another jumper suggested that Saint Thérèse de Lisieux the 'Little Flower' would be more appropriate as she is the Saint of aviators, and we are technically pilot under canopy...???
