Motorcycle Insurance?

I never liked Progressive, nor their pricing by mileage bands that start at 2600 miles. (I've gone as low as 3k, as high as 18)

I noticed that since I ride my bike to school and work. To work (both jobs) I average 15miles one way between the two of them, to school I average about 5 miles each way. Thus, going to work every day (it works out that I work roughly 6-7 days a week) and school, I'm pounding on the milage. Hell, doing that I put nearly 60k on my truck last year!

My new Allstate agent suggested I keep my Progressive policy because he couldn't match it. Houston is an expensive market for any insurance.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Dave,

I only paid $52 a year with Progressive for liability only on my old 350cc when i was driving it. When they ask you how long you've been riding, lie your ass off! (to progressive or whomever you pick) Say you've been riding dirt bikes on a family farm since you were 12, and you will get a significant cut...they don't do background checks or anything :)

Good luck!

I have used nationwide, allstate, and currently use farmers. When I was 18 and had a 650cc allstate was cheap ( at that time :) . Then I got a 1000cc BMW K1 (they classified it as a sport bike most of the time ) and paid like $1000/year for it. Then turned 21 and got another bike a K1200LT beemer. still with allstate and was paying 1200/year for both bikes. Plus with Ohio weather I laid the policy up for good half a year.
Now at 24 I pay $272 and $242 for each bike respecitvely. That is rolling in the Experienced rider course, AMA membership, BMWMOA membership, my homeowners/business/life insurance with the same carrier.
No accidents, so cannot judge the companies reliability

One thing that always made sense - pretty much everybody gives AMA discount, I know progressive is pretty big on that as well as the Experienced rider course.

State Farm. I have had good service out of them; they have paid three claims on my bike and not ditched me. One was a hit and run that cost them nearly $8000 and nobody to countersue, so I was pretty stoked that they didn't try to "total" my bike. I have my sled insured for 20K.

State Farm...but they'll only cover you if you auto with them. They were 1/3 the price of progressive.

Same here. And State Farm was stupid-cheap compared to anyone else for me - they don't classify bike types, they go by engine size. A friend of mine was paying more for his Shadow than I was for my R6 :D
it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

You know I beleived that until I moved to Denver, holy shit did they put Houston to shame, ended up having to drop quite a few of the perks I had to break even. Even when the no-fault law went away last year my rates really didn't go down very much. >:(
