GravityGirl 0 #26 July 19, 2004 Quote How much does a beer truck cost?? The last Boogie I organized we had partial sposorships on alcohol. The beer truck with 4 high end beers was $870.00. All the wine was donated. We also provided cases of non-alcoholic beverages like hansen sodas and juices for the designated drivers and those who don't imbibe. The cost of alcohol was a VERY small part of the the expenses going out. The boogie fee goes to food, added facilities, extra staff, specialty aircraft, props, set-up/clean-up, added fees for garbage removal... the list goes on and on. Bottom line is, the biggest expense is the aircraft. So non-jumpers get a reduced rate at our boogie. Non-Drinkers get non-alcoholic beverages. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! sunshine 2 #29 July 19, 2004 Sucks that people are giving you crap for voicing your opinion. I don't drink beer either and it pisses me off that boogie fees cover free beer. BTW, Skydive Greene County in Xenia, OH is awesome cause they NEVER charge boogie fees. And the DZOs provide free dinner most of the time too. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!
jlmiracle 7 #30 July 19, 2004 I feel you pain man especially when the advertise beer and pop but the pop is no where to be found. They always say its next to the beer truck, but I have yet to find it. We have a halloween boogie every year and we charge a registration fee but that fee includes Buffet Dinner, beer, pop, jello shots, and 2 raffle ticket. We so have to purchase (at production cost) a raffle prize or 2. Oh yeah, you get to keep your printed beer/pop cup. To really appreciate what has to go on for a boogie that generally has a boogie fee, you need to run one. It's ALOT of hard work and time. RevJim 0 #31 July 19, 2004 QuoteMany smaller DZ's anual boogies are often a "break even" event. Quite true, though I can think of a much, much larger boogie that is usually a break even event, or worse. Think really, REALLY big boogie. Ferry fees? FAA problems? City logistics? Advertising? Venue insurance? The list could go on and on (and does). How big of a check do some of you people think it takes just to get a big boogie going, and then hope you can recoup that cash? diablopilot 2 #32 July 19, 2004 I think it's more that people are just plain tired of hearing complaints about how expensive skydiving is. Most people knew that getting into the sport but have forgoten it shortly afterward. I know plenty of people that have given up almost everything, live in trailers on the DZ, and eat lots of Top Ramen when they do eat in order to pursue their dreams in the sport. They don't complain about it. They also realize that DZ's and DZO's are not running a comune, they are running a business. When it cost's $1500 bucks to bring in a Skyvan from another DZ so the boogie can go off, and that's just to get it there, not including the cost per load, the hotels, airline tickets, food, and drink for LO's, the added dumpster pickups, the clean up crew, the groundskeeper to fix up the DZ when the boogie is over............---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

happythoughts 0 #34 July 19, 2004 All those live bands cost money too. Of course, as long as non-drinking skydivers are getting a beer-refund, deaf skydivers could always ask for a refund of that portion... For women, I make a drunken effort to accost them all at some point. However, for those that I miss, there is the security guard refund.

CanuckInUSA 0 #36 July 19, 2004 Actually a certain local DZ to myself had a boogie not long ago where they charged a boogie fee, yet they DIDN'T provide beer. So I'm pissed off that us beer drinkers were alienated. Well I'm not really pissed, I just wanted to let you know that whining about paying for beer is about as ridiculous as myself whining about not having beer provided. As many people have already stated, boogie fees go towards many things, not just beer. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
cderham 0 #37 July 19, 2004 I used to look at the WFFC's boogie fee as great when I drank the free beer. (Quincy = Bud/Bud Lite) Now that Miller is the only product you get for free I bring my own. I used to drink way more than the boogie fee in beer. Now I just look at the fee as a price to pay to play with friends. skyyhi 0 #48 July 19, 2004 Here is how it works for me. . . I have gone (well sort of) to 4 different boogies, and I have 4 different tee shirts. . .Sometimes I eat the meal that is provided and sometimes I don't - I have a great time, meet lots of new people because they showed up for the boogie and if I choose not to drink the beer that is offered, then so be it. . .its a small price to pay for the fun I am going to have. . .________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy

vdschoor 0 #50 July 19, 2004 I look at it this way, there are enough places (bars / clubs) that charge a 10 dollar or more fee to get in, you just pay that too right? You get nothing for that, still have to buy your own drinks e.a. I see boogies as an opportunity to meet new people, jump new planes and party. What the hell if it costs a couple of bucks to be allowed in. Iwan
