My Rant About Boogie Regestration Fees....

Recommended Posts

This is something that has been bugging me for quite a while now - Maybe if I put my frusterations out in the Open now I'll have them put to ease - Maybe there is another explanation!!
:S

I'm a non-drinker. I buy cases of Lemonaid and water when I'm called. It aggrivates the hell out out of me when I pay "x" amount for a boogie and see how much of the regestration fee goes into paying for the Keg. Why can't more boogies offer discounts for non-drinkers!?! I'll be happy to wear a different color or goofy bracelet!! I know how much a DZ puts into beer for a boogie, why Am I paying for other people to drink!! >:(>:( I Want a Discount!!

Ahhh, my rant is over. Thanks everybody... :)

Maybe if you take your concern to the DZO they will have some Lemonade or even some Cheese to go with your whine :P

The Fee goes to more then just beer....talk to the DZO.......:)

Lets pick an average "boogie" beer like Bud LIght. Bud Light (atleast around here) is about $60 a keg.

Lets say your average boogie has 150 people and they go through 3 kegs. Lets also say that the registration fee was $25.

That's $3750 in registration fees.

And

$180 in Beer.

So basically everyone is chipping in $1.20 for their part of the beer.

Fine, you can have your $1.20 back.

See, the majority of the boogie fee goes to other things that *are* expensive, like ferry fees for the aircraft and such.

I actually found the concept of this thread interesting. Sometimes our boogie fee includes dinner, but sometimes it doesn't. And if it doesn't, what does it pay for? I've never gotten a t-shirt, and how much do LO's make? It seems like $15 per person going towards beer and LO's only is a LOT of money.

Generally the LOs don't make much of anything, if anything. The LO's slot is covered, so that's money flying out the door, so to speak, on the DZ's part.

Remember, the DZ has to make money to be able to hold these sorts of events, if they end up in the red, then they won't be able to have good boogies.

A lot of the boogies I've gone to have been put on by the DZ for the love of the sport, etc, knowing that they'll be lucky to break even, but they wanted to have a good time for everyone. There's a reason why those boogies only happen once.

Aircraft ferry fees, slots for organizers, a DJ, T-shirts, food, advertising, wind blades . . . there are a lot of things that go in to organizing a boogie.

>and how much do LO's make?

At Rantoul we make nothing. Free slot, that's it.

How many times have you paid for something, and never used it? I go to events all the time that have food/attractions included in the price, but never eat it. It is a waste for me. I see the cooks view also, don't know how many tickets sold don't know how much food to cook. It is a waste to cook a pay per plate jambalaya for 200 people and only 50 people eat.

I can't speak for everyone's events but for the Gravity Rats Freefly Revolution now in its third year. We charge $25 and with dinner, t-shirts, beer, medals, and the band we barely break even each year. But we have a blast!

>It is a waste for me.

Well, boogie organizers have a choice as to how to pay for stuff. They can up ticket prices, do a pay-per-use thing, or have a boogie fee. If it's pay-per-use they have to deal with having a cashier and security (you generally need security around large amounts of money) and they have to order twice as much as they need for last-minute people who want to eat/want a T-shirt, which means that the pay-per-use ends up being a lot more expensive.

They can do it via jump prices, but most people go to boogies to jump a lot, and you're basically penalizing the people who want to jump a lot if you go that route.

That leaves a registration fee, which is something they are already set up to do (for first jump students.) Fortunately, there is an easy answer if you don't like that method of raising money - don't go to boogies that charge registration fees.

heh, not many boogies like that. All of the really kickass boogies I've ever been to had to have a fee, the wouldn't have been able to pull off the cool stuff they had for everyone (aircraft, food, t-shirt, etc) without one.

I am all for whatever is easier. I stated that I often let people have my money and not recieve anything. Then I set up an example showing how I understand that they do it that way b/c of planning.
Skydiving is expensive I stopped bitching about money a long time ago:)

Yep. Ditto.:P

Beause you know none of the registation ever goes to food, ferry fees for extra aircraft, bands, extra staff, givaways, raffles, advertizing, ect.

Many smaller DZ's anual boogies are often a "break even" event.:)

How much does a beer truck cost??

They are usually dontated by the beer provider. Generally doesn't cost anything to bring in a beer truck. Couch Freaks has a beer truck, but it includes root beer and they have had the truck for awhile now. The ferry cost for planes are pretty high, for us to get a king air at our boogie, we were looking at $1400 just in ferry costs.

I see where you are coming from though unstable, some of the boogies I've been to this year actually had discounted reg fees if you weren't going to be there to whole time (i.e. dinner, beer etc etc)

It's probably not even worth worry about. I misunderstood a few things that this thread cleared up for me. (thanks, everybody.)
