tunaplanet 0 #1 July 17, 2004 Anyone else play this? I started last Tuesday and have played a grand total of 18 holes. Needless to say I look as graceful as an elephant on ice skates. Regardless, I love it. It helps that my roommate used to play professionally. It's easy to get tips and proper form with someone that good living with you. Anyways, just curious if anyone else is or has this addiction? Forty-two

DTOXX 0 #4 July 17, 2004 Fun fun fun. We play at the college using select trees as "holes" There is also a few dedicated courses in the parks around town. I have, in the past, been forced to tape up my right middle finger because I was tearing off the skin. ------- D.T. Holder SIMstudy

indyz 1 #8 July 19, 2004 QuoteOh! Frisbee golf! Yes I have played that it was calling it disc that threw me off. Don't say Frisbee boy, do you wanna get sued? There's a course right down the street from me. I play a couple rounds a week. Only own one disc, which makes the serious guys cringe ("Dude, you need a driver and a putter, minimum"). Unfortunately, about a month after the 9 holes were installed complaints forced the park district to remove two holes. The neighbors insist that it brought troublemakers, but as far as I could tell it kept the problem kids away by bringing foot traffic to an essentially abandoned park. Can't drink beer in the woods when people are always walking by. Anyway, only having seven holes doesn't bother me too much, but it keeps the experienced players away. pringles 0 #12 July 21, 2004 Disc golf is lots of fun... For anyone reading this post that hasn't tried it you should think about it. It does sound kinda lame but it works out great for those days when the clouds are too low and they aren't flying loads. Even better is that it is Free normaly. I have never been to a course that charges. So get some of your jumping buddies together. Throw some beer in a back pack and go out to a course. In my experiance most "Quicky Marts" close by a course will have disc's to buy. Just grab one. Sometimes you can find some out at the course that others have lost. Most courses have some guy that finds discs and sells them used for cheap also. It doesn't matter much if your not any good either because if your out with friends something interesting always seems to happen. People that disc golf seem to be a friendly bunch also so if you don't know what your doing or need help navagating the course I'm sure someone would be glad to help. Here is a link to help find a course near you. http://www.discgolfdirectory.com/ Matt Davies
peacefuljeffrey 0 #13 July 21, 2004 Yep, I play. In fact, I was down near Ft. Lauderdale this weekend at a place called Tradewinds Park (actually in Coconut Creek, FL) playing the 18 hole major big course they have there. At times I've been a paid member of the Ft. Lauderdale Disc Golf Club (based at Tradewinds). I've played as an Am in some tournaments, but I don't chase tourneys around like a lot of guys do. Disc golf is an awesome sport. I think that I don't care so much about playing the game as I care about the satisfying feeling of making a disc fly -- it's so amazingly graceful! I had never heard about it until 1989, when I was high school senior, and a friend of mine told the rest of us that he had heard of "these special, small 'golf discs' for playing disc golf" and we went hunting high and low (this was well before websites, mind you) at all kinds of sporting goods stores until we found one that had ONE MODEL of disc for sale. I bought my first Aviar there, and I still have it. The funny thing is, although I had started to collect the discs in 1989, I never did play the game for real, on a real course, until 1998, when by luck someone who knew where there was a course saw that I had the discs and asked me if I played there. I was like, "Where is this place?" He told me how to find it, and it was the first time I ever saw a real disc golf target in person. I've loved the game ever since. BTW, if you're new to the game and want a great starter disc, get yourself either an Innova "Aero," or "Aviar." Can't go wrong. And beware, most golf discs do not float in water. "When a ball dreams, it dreams it's a disc!" Blue skies, -Jeffrey
